When you’re using a cloud service to store your files, first you have to upload your files to a server and then download it from the server when you want to access the file. ShareON does not store files on any server, instead it creates a direct connection between your different devices.
Unlike cloud services, with ShareON the media is stored on the local or remote device and you can immediately access and stream/download the content, thus making it much quicker than cloud services. Cloud services also generally lack the ability to stream video directly.
ShareON supports installation on and can send/stream between Android, iOS, PC and Mac.
I got misled by the title "Share 10GB in 10s" I think it should state "Start direct-transfers of large files in seconds"- do you see what I mean? Justmy2c! Looking forward to see how this evolves ;)
@orliesaurus The WSJ article linked above states:

But I think that's a bit confusing since most of us don't have wi-fi or LTE while on the subway...

The website is a little vague: "ShareON uses advanced direct sharing technology to share media files between devices."
Presumably it's using Bluetooth, possibly ad-hoc or normal WiFi? It looks like ShareON could be a cross-platform competitor to AirDrop, kind of like Dukto.
It'd be great to have more clarity on the tech powering it and what makes it different.

Our cross-platform device-to-device app enables users to access/ share/ stream/ display files of any size or type, agnostic of device location and without using a 3rd party cloud service. Users also have the option of downloading these files, if they wish.
We connect devices directly using WiFi, 4G or LTE. We developed our own peer-to-peer technology that allows our service to find and connect devices that are in different network environments.
We currently license our technology to enterprise companies, including Samsung and CJE and leveraging this technology to power our consumer product.
@lehartel@emigna To add one more thing to Emily's comment, we think Bittorrent Sync is a great service, but we are more focused on personal use cases. Our main goal is to help people connect devices effortlessly and view their files instantly.
