Salyangoz is a realtime link sharing platform. Comparing to Pocket or any other bookmark saving tools, Salyangoz is not a bookmark saving tool. Its behavior is Snapchat-ish. With the browser extension, you will be able to share your links on Salyangoz. It allows you to have a cleaner approach to view links up-to-date and daily. Your sharings will be available to see for 24 hours by your followers. On the Popular and Recent menus, you'll see most viewed links and most recent links in the 24 hours. It uses Twitter to register and login.

@fkadev Would be cool as an extension to mobile safari, you know how Bing has the little translate page button in safari (by the add to homepage button). Thoughts?
baddesigner
@fkadev Nice concept, but why links are limited for 24 hours?
Fatih Kadir Akın
@baddesigner Because we consume the internet. Old links are old, nobody wants to see obsolete and old content, which makes your history a garbage. If you are using a bookmark saving utility, you can realize that most of them are obsolete and garbage now. Salyangoz is not a bookmarking platform, it's a "up-to-date" link sharing platform. Salyangoz is a "living" platform, but not a database.

@jonasalmut Yes! We are working on sharing via mobile Safari.

Nice product!

@oliviachang292 Salyangoz means "Snail" in Turkish and Greek. Snails look like salivating things. "Saliva" derived from "salion" in Greek, means "saliva, spit". "Saliongas" in Greek means "the salivating, snail". The Turkish word of it is derived from Greek: "Salyangoz". That's why the logo is a snail :)

@oliviachang292 Now, you are able to share links via the ⊕ button on top right, next to your profile picture.

I like the simplicity and the ephemerality is interesting but why purge the link, @fkadev?
Fatih Kadir Akın
@rrhoover As I mentioned above, it's not a link saving platform. You are generating a "what's new to me" content and share with your followers. There are many bookmark saving platforms, even Chrome has bookmarks with sync feature which is basically collecting bookmarks for you to use everywhere. Our main concern is not to collect links but share them with your followers, also cleanness is very important for the user. We do not want any "garbage".
Fatih Kadir Akın
@rrhoover Also if a link is popular enough, you'll always see it since everybody sharing it. When it become obsolete, it's naturally become a garbage and you won't see it anymore. Basically Salyangoz is a "living" platform, links have their lifes.
Ryan Hoover
@fkadev got it! That makes sense for sharing timely things like news which becomes outdated quickly.

how does Salyangoz set itself apart from Refind? compared benefits / strengths?
Fatih Kadir Akın
@bay_tantuni I actually don't see any relations between Salyangoz and Refind. Salyangoz is not a bookmark saving tool, it's link sharing platform. It's not about collecting bookmarks, it's about sharing your visited links with your friends, daily.
Oytun Emre Yucel
@fkadev refind is deceptive by name but functionally works the same way.. you can categorize your links by tags and have the follower / following link between users in a similar fashion..
Oytun Emre Yucel
@fkadev also, are you planning on aggregating the results on the popular page, and if so, who will be the link owner? for example, at the moment a link is shown 3 times with different number of views (depending on whose shared link was clicked how many times).. let's say couple users got extremely excited about a new release and salyangoz'd it, and that link got viewed by each user's followers enough to get on the populars list. wouldn't overburdening the populars tab with the same link make it slightly obsolete?
Fatih Kadir Akın
@bay_tantuni You are completely right! We know this issue and have a few ideas to fix this. The best option is to show only one link with the most viewed count. So you'll be seeing just one link without any duplications.
SSS
I have no idea how to add a link 🙄
Fatih Kadir Akın
@famouslabs You have to use browser extension. Soon you'll be able to add from homepage. Now you can add by using Chrome Extension: https://chrome.google.com/websto...
Kazuya Nakamura
@famouslabs It seems adding feature works only with Chrome extension. https://chrome.google.com/websto...
Fatih Kadir Akın
@kzynakamura @famouslabs Yes, for now we just have Chrome extension. Other extensions are on their way :) Extensions are open sourced, so you can add new ones :) https://github.com/SalyangozMe

I like the way you can easily share ressources on the platform ! We just need to create a Recipe on IFTTT now ! :)
Fatih Kadir Akın
Now, you are able to share links via the ⊕ button on top right, next to your profile picture -- without using extension.
Min Park
Sounds like a great idea! What people bookmark online is like the modern version of what kind of books you keep on your bookshelf :) What does the brand name mean? Why the snail?
Fatih Kadir Akın
@parkhmp7 Because we draw a path when we share our links, just like a snail :) Salyangoz means snail in Turkish and Greek :)
Kazuya Nakamura
Ah, I see. This is a kind of community version of Pocket. Pocket is personal. Salyangoz is community. Great if I can use tag to organize them. Cool product :)
Fatih Kadir Akın
@kzynakamura We thought about link organization, but it would be a bit confusing and make it slow to share. Our main approach is to make your link feed "cleaner" and "up-to-date". Snapchat-like auto-destroying behavior makes it possible. Salyangoz is not about collecting links, it's about "what's new today", it's about "now".
Paul Banks
The product name seems a bit complicated, and is fairly difficult to say and share. I have thought a different product name?
Fatih Kadir Akın
@paul_banks It's not that hard: sal (like saying "Sam" but with ending "L") + yan (like "ian") + goz (like "goose") = "SaL ian goose" may be the closest pronounciation :)

Love this concept. Snapchat is sure the best way to share our visual "life story" with friends, and Salyangoz is seemingly a great way of showing whats on our minds, our inner-self through our interests and discoveries. So on that, please get rid of the EDIT: "automatically post to" public feed as quick as possible and make it friend to friend, I'd hesitate to share all the weird stuff I find if everyone can see it, same as Snapchat. Make it that, and I think you have a winner. Two bugs: - My links didn't show up on my Profile right away, but they do show up in the Recent feed. Thought the site was broken for the first 5 minutes. - The post time is off by 3 hours, possibly not adjusting for Timezone?
Fatih Kadir Akın
@capsuledev1 We are pulling your Timezone from your Twitter account. We'll fix that. We are discussing about public feed :)
Joe Hobot
Love the idea and the site but dude, I can barely remember the name. If you ask me offline "Whats cool site to share links in real time" - I would respond , starts something with Sal or Sally. Google it..
Fatih Kadir Akın
@joehobot Actually it's too easy to remember I think. Sal + Yan + Goz :) Since it's kinda new word, it's not easy to remember at first, but you'll remember when you use more I think :)
Fatih Kadir Akın
@joehobot Now you can use http://saly.me to easily open Salyangoz :)
Mehmet Perk
Kudos to the Salyangoz team. A snippet of the link would be nice too.

I do hate apps taking over my menu bar but this would definitely have its place and a great way to start the day. Any plans on this?
Samuel Roy
@fkdev You know your logo would be eaten in seconds in France. Sorry I had to point this. :-)
Serkan Yerşen
Congrats on the launch @fkdev. Looks really nice. You guys need to do some usability testing though. Here is some feedback; UX is very simple but not very intuitive. I couldn't figure out most of the basic functionality initially. Extension is a one-click share, which is nice but I accidentally shared a link and it was hard to go back and remove it. "Snapchat-ish" behaviour is a good idea to keep things fresh but it was confusing needs more refinements Overall great idea and well executed. I wish you good luck.
Hasan Civelek
Every morning I try to share some link on Salyangoz but I have to login first. I don't need re-login my email or my Twitter account or my Facebook account but I have to re-login Salyangoz account and its make me angry! Is there a way to fix this?
