Hey Product Hunt! I’ve hunted a really cool product focussing on making the digital world more accessible! The folks at the Contentsquare Foundation (@tyoung, @sylvainzimmer) have released their first version of Readapt. Offered free to the public to help those with reading challenges (like dyslexia and poor vision), Readapt helps to adapt text on websites and Word documents to users’ individual needs and preferences. Readapt is available as a Chrome browser extension and a Microsoft Word add-in. Reading is critical for education, self-development, and communication. But reading challenges like dyslexia means that 10-15% of the global population struggle to read and can find digital text inaccessible. This is especially the case for dyslexic children in school. Not being able to read slows their education and can have a severe impact on their social and communication skills, as well as their emotional life. Readapt's goal is to help make digital text more accessible so that these folks can maximize their reading comfort and academic/professional success. Chances are you'll know someone who will find our tool useful in their daily life. Readapt can adapt text in English or French, and features text adaptation techniques known to help those with reading challenges. Different challenges require different techniques, so users can pick and configure what works for them. Below is a summary of what they can configure: - Font - Font size - Spacing between letters, words and lines of text - Distinguishing syllables with colours and their opacity - Distinguish different phonemes (sounds) - Distinguish different graphemes (letters) - Distinguish lines of text - Distinguish liaisons (French only) - Distinguish silent letters Readapt is also open source! The Contentsquare Foundation invites those in the developer community to check out their Github repository and collaborate with them on this excellent cause and improve the solution over time. They’re excited to hear your feedback so please let them know if you have any questions.

Really nice product ! I tried both the Chrome extension and the Word extension. I'm just short-sighted but I deal with lots of digital content every day and so far these extensions help me rest my eyes and facilitate my reading. Chrome extension : Game changer to read news with really small and tight content. I read both in English and French and it seems that I cannot have 2 profiles at the same time so I need to change my profile to adapt it. I don't know if it is everyday use. Word extension : I love it ! I often lose track when I write and I reread what I write. I alternate between Word and Gdocs. Do you plan to have a gdoc extension? Great work guys

@antonin_mathez1 We think it'll be a great feature in a future version to be able to have multiple language profiles, and to be able to adapt multiple languages at the same time. Google docs extension - yes this is part of our roadmap :) Thanks!

@tyoung that's nice to hear ! Keep me posted :)

Just not working, no effect
Taze Young
Hi, @sungho. Can you please tell me where you're trying it? If you're using it in Chrome, you need to set up a profile first, then on a website with text, hold CTRL (windows) or Command (Mac) to select blocks of text, then left-click your mouse. Let me know how you go!

@tyoung Fount out, it works on English text, I tried it on Korean text,
Taze Young
@sungho Yes our first version works on english or french text. We do want to add other languages in the future. The solution is also open source, so feel free to share with those you know who might want to contribute to add Korean to the solution :)
This is super useful and tone of customization and FREE! It needs more upvotes.
