I'm a news junkie, and the power and allure of a newspaper's front page have always fascinated me. When I stumbled upon an article written by a Google engineer who had built an e ink device with the front page of his favorite daily newspaper prominently displayed on his wall, I was a bit jealous. So, I worked with a e-ink company called Visionect in Slovenia to build a version that comes shipped ready to put on your wall. The screen isn't cheap ($2500) because it's a huge 32" e-ink display. The beautiful glass screen is connected to wifi and we made it easy to choose your favorite newspaper frontpages to put on display. It's a bit like an ever changing artwork. Curious to hear the thoughts of the Product Hunt community.

@alexander_klopping1 awesome idea, upvoted! Guessing the battery will last for a year or so?
Alexander Klöpping
@ruudnl at least a couple of weeks on one charge, but we're optimizing for it to last a couple of months

@alexander_klopping1 Very cool idea and congrats on the launch! If I'd want one for my shower; is this thing waterproof?
Alexander Klöpping
@pieterpaul hahaha unfortunately it is not

@alexander_klopping1 ok, no worries. Will put it up in my bathroom instead ✌️

I have wanted this ever since you first told me about it. But I have always been too lazy to setup my own server. Great to see it’s now plug and play ❤️

I love it, but it needs a frame with the same bezel width on all sides, hiding the Visonect logo. With newsminimalist.com as the source, generating the top 10 articles with the look and feel of The New York Times frontpage - and local weather forecast top right please :)

Oh I absolutely love this. Wonderful work @alexander_klopping1! I assume you have the ability to evolve the business logic over time? It'll take a lot of mental cycles for me to select my favorite frontpages, it'd be great if these were emergent -- something new to see each day/week. Important past events, etc. Things that provoke me to remember something, vs having to remember it to see it! Love love.

I am not sure I see the value in this. Does the screen really just "display the daily front page of your favorite newspaper"? So if I see an interesting article on the front page of the NYT on this screen, I have to use my phone or my computer to read it? It is not a touchscreen, so just reading? If it's really just showing the front page, the idea is nice and interesting, but not worth all that money.

Interesting idea. I hope that over time the cost will be lower. 😅

It's a great idea, but the price is scary for me. Good luck!

Congrats on the launch! Love this. Do other newspapers aside from WP and NYT provide urls for their print covers? Any Dutch newspapers by any chance?
