Plantyflix - Watch Netflix and plant trees

by

Watching 1 hour of Netflix is the same as driving a car for 3.3km (2 miles). Plantyflix helps you to plant trees each month while you watch your favourite films and TV shows. It's super affordable, starting at $1 per month to plant a few trees.

@emre_ozgunduz Thank you :)

How did you even think to pair the two?
Fabrice Diedrich
@jaketital You're talking about driving a car and watching Netflix? Most people are aware of the emissions of cars, that's why we decided to compare these twos :)

Landing page looks nice and I think the idea overall is great. One thing I was wondering: > 1 hour of video streaming is responsible for 0.4kg of CO2 Can you verify this claim or link to a scientific paper somewhere on the site? I'd like to understand how you got that number.
Liam Hänel
@theoll Good question, we get this one a bit. We've just updated the site to make it a little easier to understand/find. Paper is here: https://iopscience.iop.org/artic...

Very relevant!

That's a great idea! Next step - who to pay for CO2 I produce during my sleep, because it's from 6 to 8 hrs a day of "non-stop CO2". I believe, silver bullet project will be convert "non-stop CO2" into "stop CO2"

Is this connected to my Netflix account or is this just a comparison to help me understand my "impact"?
Fabrice Diedrich
@florian_baum Unfortunately it's not connected to your Netflix account yet 🙃 We tried to give you some examples to better understand the impact of streaming videos.
David Hackett
Cool. Now all we need is this for YouTube, YouTube TV, Twitch, TikTok, Mixer, Caffeine…etc.
Fabrice Diedrich
Thank you so much! :)

I don't understand why would I give money to this, when I can go directly donate to the organization planting the trees, like edenprojects.org, or other similar.

?makers I haven't found any information about how your company deal with the data collected. Also, I am curious about why your company decided to based its calculation on the data from only one article dated from 2014 using data from 2011?
