Hey all! My name is Owen, I'm the developer behind PlaceholderJS. Since the demise of placeholder.com, I wanted to be able to use placeholders on my React projects via a package so that way I don't have to worry about these services shutting down again in the future. Additionally, for our non-React developers out there, I created a simple CDN that functions similarly.

@bick nice! The example URLs work well – I am going to use this today 💪 Have you thought about generating data-uri's so there is no network needed at all?

Love the concept, Owen! PlaceholderJS sounds like a game changer for React projects, especially with its lightweight footprint. The CDN option is a great touch for non-React users too – super inclusive! This kind of reliability is crucial in our fast-paced development world. Definitely upvoting this! Looking forward to seeing how it evolves.

Great to see PlaceholderJS launch, Owen! 🎉 The lightweight aspect is a huge plus for React devs who want to keep their projects optimized without the bloat. Using a CDN for non-React users is also a smart move, making it accessible to a broader audience. It's so crucial to have reliable tools in our stack, especially after losing placeholder.com. Can't wait to integrate this into my next project and maybe even contribute to its growth! Keep up the fantastic work! Upvoted!

Sounds like a super handy tool. Haven't dived deep yet, but the idea of a reliable placeholder for React projects is cool. Congrats and good luck with the launch!

Nice 👏, I've recently been looking for exactly this feature - simple placeholder serving lightweight SVG images. Thanks!

This seems like a neat solution, @bick! I'm curious about the integration process for React projects. Can you share some insights on how easy it is to implement PlaceholderJS? Also, any plans to support other frameworks, or is it strictly React and CDN for now? Would love to see some practical examples or demos!

I like it! Definitely had a few moments where I would have reached for sth like this if I had known about it. One piece of feedback: it would interest me while reading the docs, if I were to use it, where the images are from

Great to see PlaceholderJS by @bick making waves! 🚀 It's so refreshing to have a lightweight solution (under 3KB, really?) for image placeholders, especially after all the drama with placeholder.com. No one wants their project derailed by a sudden service shutdown. Additionally, the CDN option is a smart move for non-React devs! The dev community always appreciates tools that make life easier. Looking forward to seeing how many devs will upvote this one and share their experiences. Any plans for future features or updates? Keep on shipping, Owen!

The CDN method for placeholders makes integrating into my projects a breeze. also I can customize the text and colors directly in the URL—so handy!

Oh great, another placeholder service, just what we needed, I mean we've already got Lorem Ipsum and dummyimage.com among others, what makes this one stand out, it might be under 3KB but honestly who needs another CDN service when we have so many libraries doing the same thing, hope it doesn't end up like placeholder.com, shutting down when people start relying on it, cool idea but doesn't feel truly necessary, excited to see how it actually performs in the long run
