PixDuplicate is a website and a Progressive Web App where you can select a folder from your system (mobile or PC) to scan for duplicate or similar images. If your browser supports the new File System API, you can delete them completely from your system to save space, or simply move them to a new duplicates folder, where you can later decide what to do with them.

Very useful product! Can you tell me more about the types of image files that PixDuplicate supports? Can it handle a wide range of file formats, including RAW images, or is it limited to more common formats like JPEG and PNG?

It can handle image formats like JPG, PNG, BMP, WEBP, and GIFs (both static and animated), with each image being up to 40MB in size.

It will help you find near duplicates, like exact photos, resized pics, or images with just a tiny bit of color tweaking or minor watermarks. However, it won’t catch images that have been really cropped or rotated or taken from different angles, or tricky lighting scenarios.
You can check out the images by clicking on them, which will pop open a larger preview. Just keep in mind that if you let the website access your folder and decide to delete an image, it’s gone forever,because how the Chrome API works,it will completely delete it from the system,even from the trashcan.
So if you’re not ready to delete it, you can always move it to a duplicates folder instead.

Congrats on the launch! 🚀 I'm sure it's all above-board but my first reaction is that I'm not sure I'd trust a website with file access to delete things off my laptop. Maybe better to release this as an app store app so people know it's passed some sort of review?

It says that I need to upload all my files for this to work. This seems to contradict the claim that everything happens locally and would also probably take a lot of time.

Sorry,by locally i meant that the image scan happens on the client and nothing gets uploaded to the server.
And im still working on the offline PWA feature,so it should also work for offline users with no internet access and it only takes time to scan images if you have thousands of them.
