I've always wanted this to exist. All the data is in our email. Going further out into the future if many people start using this, it can become a customer acquisition and even retention channel for ride services.
@hnshah this is great! Could help a lot of people have a better awareness around this kind of spending.
I'd offer another angle on this... a potential source of revenue, would be generating this data for drivers (broken down by month) to help them with keeping track of income for filing taxes. Has a strong value prop - esp if you can offer such an easy way to visualize where they (we) are getting consistent trip volume, so they (we) can maximize earnings.
great design; great idea. I look forward to seeing @zainjaffer's stats. He's the #1 Lyft rider with over 600 rides.
Quick question: why's it only showing my history back to March 2014? I was taking rides (and have the receipts in my gmail) since 2011.
oh and bonus points if you add a leader-board.
@zainjaffer@_jacksmith@bramk leaderboard would be really interesting!
@_jacksmith some of the older receipts are not supported yet, that's why you see your history back to March 2014.
This is a cool idea, but I can't help but feel allowing access to all email is a bit too much for most users. Like Utku said, I feel like forwarding receipts to an automated email box would be better. Also, that opens the app up to everyone, not just those using Gmail.
Very cool idea.
I imagine you discussed the mental barrier of email access to use the service many times. Have you considered letting people forward Uber/Lyft receipts to a unique email address you provide as an alternative?
@utku Hi Utku, thank you for taking your time and trying Pistats.io. Yes, we are planning to introduce feature which will allow you to add just simple forwarding rule to your emails with receipts and forward them to pistats.io, which will take care for all the heave lifting.
Please follow us on @pistatsio for more information.
@mbesto yeah, wish gmail had a better system for this. There's tons of great data within email...but giving access to your whole account is really scary.
@mbesto@michaelschultz Yeah I wish too. We are using the GMail OAuth APIs and to be honest, I was quite disappointed by both the performance and the lack of creativity they put in. Since we are using exact regex to fetch Uber and Lyft receipts, I can imagine that they limit the app registration with exact regular expression, so the application won't be able touch emails which doesn't not match it - but it also has it's limitations.
I agree with you that email contains so many important and useful data. Hope you liked our product.
Really cool, but caveat;
Why not just use the Uber and Lyft APIs? Authorizing full email access for a novel tool isn't a habit we should get people in to..
@chrismaddern Hi Chris, thank your trying Pistats.io. I appreciate your feedback. Unfortunately, Lyft has no public APIs and when we were creating this product, we wanted to have the conjunction of both services.
We do realize that there are better ways how to solve this problem(for example use Uber's OAuth APIs) and don't have Lyft support, but we wanted to have both services covered.
Thank you for taking your time and play with our product!
I low how after logging in, you're told how many rides you have and you see them add up as their being processed. Scary, but awesome. Perhaps even a little animation to show how much each individual ride costs as it's being added would be even more intriguing.
As somebody who uses Uber Pool and Lyft Line lot nowadays bouncing around Sf and LA, I could definitely see myself using this. Have done a lot of cost benefit analysis of owning a car vs. just lyft and uber everywhere (no maintenance, car insurance, no buying a car, etc.). Met Tomas at YC Startup School. Sharp guy and excited to see where this goes.
@sshah1983 Hi Samir, thank you for trying Pistats.io and I appreciate your feedback. We do realize that we should improve the share functionality and it will be our list of features.
@ourielohayon Hi Ouriel, thanks a lot! The nearest thing for us is support for all those receipts that didn't go through, including the international ones.
This is awesome. My sheer number of rides broke the map interface unfortunately. Quick question: Did you build a custom email lookup for receipts or did you use a service? Email inbox seems to be the holy grail for data and I wonder if there is an easy service that lets you pick keywords, subject lines or information like that and get all emails
@nikunj thanks for feedback! Pistats.io uses GMail API where you can specify what messages you want to fetch (by subject, sender, date, label etc.), just like in your actual GMail.
