Oxus - Split the cost of expensive subscriptions with others

Software is expensive and burn rates get high really fast. As a maker I always wished there was somewhere I could find like minded, trustworthy individuals to share certain subscriptions with to lower costs.
To scratch my own itch, I have created Oxus!

Hi Colin, your idea is smart, but are you sure not to break any sort of policies of the respective services?
Colin Winhall
@angelostramieri It is all very complicated and a lot of grey areas. My method is to leave it up to the users to determine whether if sharing is allowed or not. Oxus is simply a platform to find and connect the users together.

@angelostramieri @colinwinhall Excellent answer. I don't have a use case for this, but I appreciate this kind of thinking.

I had the idea for Oxus 2 years ago when I was beginning my journey as a "maker". There were always great tools to use to get the job done but the expenses of these tools were out of reach as a solo maker. I often wish there was a way to share these accounts with others. Others in the same position as me. So I have finally created Oxus. A platform to let others know that you are interested in sharing the costs of a premium membership. The platform itself acts as a way to find and communicate with each other. My hope is that this will enable entrepreneurship to flourish where it otherwise would have stopped dead due to high costs and no runway. I'm willing to put my money where my mouth is. My profile lists tools I am willing to share a premium plan with others. https://bit.ly/3aEDXaA

this is great, why not launch it 2 years ago
Colin Winhall
@yyonfai I simply didn't posses the knowledge on how to make it myself :)
Vincent Yee

@neil_pierce Thanks Neil!

Love the idea. I’m waiting for such a product for years. But I would love something more useful than a simple directory of tools and users. In my humble opinion you should iterate ;)
Colin Winhall
@stanislaslv That's the plan :) I want to learn first how users are using it so far then ask them what is missing and how I can improve it.

Is this legally Viable @colin?
Colin Winhall
@colin @kjosephabraham I'm not 100% sure. I did a lot of research in to it and there are no blanket rules about such things. The legal trouble tends to be around monetising the sharing aspect of it, which is why I rather monetised the data aspect of it (contacting users). There is a lot of research that still needs to be done in this area to find the balance. I'm hoping this is a start in that direction.

This is a great idea, lots of examples on product hunt, but of course, it has been shut down many times too.

This is something that is needed for TypeForm subscriptions, they are basically offering a polished Google forms solution (basic user case) and have increased pricing to unsustainable levels (if you have max 30 responses per month, why would you pay 50$ per month to enable 2 "intelligent" processing rules). For the site itself, is there a reason why on Desktop the grid does not horizontally reorder the services (now a fairly long vertical list)? Kudos for the work so far!
Colin Winhall
@juhslk Hi Juho. The reason it's a long list is that Adalo currently doesn't have any way to create responsive rules so I had to build in a hybrid way to make it work on both web and mobile.

Love Adalo! Great work Colin! Looks smooth!

Hey @colinwinhall , at last, many had the idea. We now have a maker! Nice. Many options from here. In terms of audience think of all those people that made insightful LTD deals on Appsumo etc. Got this Elfsight deal or that Pabbly connect,, you know got some to spare for sure! You need to get the potential tech-accountability gaps sorted there. Maybe if it's by invitation only and everyone is responsible for covering their friends if they get dodgy. Sorted :) Here's another one. How about you offer a widget option for sharing one off usage, do some microfinance with about 10 screaming frog instances on a landing page. Oh the possibilities!
David Furlong
Interesting idea. Good work! Heads up theres a typo on the page “exepensive” and also the logos dont look so good on mobile
Colin Winhall
@david_furlong Oops! Thanks for pointing it out!
Euwyn Goh
Interesting idea.
