Hi all! I'm Alex, one of the co-founders of Orchard, and I'm thrilled to announce the launch of our public beta! Orchard will be completely free during the beta. Over this past year, we've been carefully noting how recent advances in AI are enabling new ways for people to create. In particular, large language models have led to a proliferation of products that claim to help you write. However, most tools today prioritize text generation workflows to make copywriters and content marketers more productive. We know thoughtful writing is all about revision, so the vast majority of writers - students, bloggers, hobbyist writers, and knowledge workers - are still underserved by any solution out on the market. So we built it ourselves, reimagining the text editor experience. We believe in augmenting human intellect with AI, not replacing it. And we hope you do too! Orchard has all the features you'd expect out of your standard text-editor, but you can also take advantage of several novel AI writing features: 📝 Native AI autocomplete: when the editor detects a long pause in your writing, it'll offer you AI-generated suggestions to help you keep your flow going. Simply press tab to accept the changes and continue writing! 📝 GPT chat interface: if you click the chatbox at the bottom of the editor, it'll pull up Orchard, an AI writing assistant. From a single conversation, you can generate writing, ask questions about virtually anything (how to improve a passage, related research topics, etc.), and request it to tweak any text to your liking before incorporating it back into your writing. To focus on a specific passage, simply select it within the document before pulling up the chatbox. This is just the start of our journey! We're constantly working hard to build the best possible user experience. Things on our immediate future roadmap include: ✅ Passive edit suggestions: as you write, Orchard will comment suggestions for improvement on your text in real-time. ✅ Personalized writing style: Orchard will learn from your writing to offer more relevant and personalized edit suggestions. ✅ Automated research: Orchard will be able to provide you with the necessary research and sources, both from the internet and your personal docs, you need to write more effectively.
