Hi everyone! Jonas here, founder of Openchangelog π
Openchangelog was born out of my own struggles while building a changelog for a different project (now abandoned... happens to the best of us π€£).
While changelogs often end up buried in repositories, they could save a ton of confusion and questions from users if easily accessible.
That's why I built Openchangelog, it transforms your CHANGELOG.md or Markdown release notes into a beautiful, dedicated website in minutes.
Key Features:
- GitHub integration
- Dark, Light and System themes
- Automatic RSS feed
- Password protection for internal changelogs
- Next.js embed
Roadmap:
- Different changelog layouts
- Analytics
- Search through release notes
- Gitlab integration
- Astro embed
The best part? It's open source and easy to self-host. But if you prefer an easy setup, our cloud version has a free plan to get you started.
I'm looking forward to seeing how you'll use Openchangelog to create changelogs your users will actually read and love!
@dmtrh Thanks Dmitrii, I have a lot of features planned. I'm most excited about analytics, which will help you track how many people view your changelog. And the search integration will make it super easy for users to find specific changes or features across all your past release notes.
@dmtrh@jonas_devs IMO those features should be announced or integrated now. Because the site is nice but it's not clear why it needs to be a server instead of just a page generator.
@denys_seguret Thanks for your feedback, I totally understand your point. I wanted to release Openchangelog as soon as possible with minimal features to receive feedback just like yours.
I'm working on Analytics as we speak, that should be available in 1-2 weeks.
so good! Just a few days ago I was searching through ProductHunt and Google for something similar to this!
Congrats on the launch and thank you for making it open source! can't wait to give it a shot :)
@davisnz Thanks Davis, I'm a big fan of open source, so I couldn't imagine launching it any other way. I'd love to hear your thoughts once you give it a try
Congratulations on the launch! I'm curious, how does your changelog handle version control and release notes for multiple teams working on different features?
@ihuzaifashoukat Since release notes can be managed through GitHub, you can just use your normal git workflow of merging multiple features into main and every features changes can be documented individually, either in the CHANGELOG.md file or in a separate markdown file. You can find out more in our docs on Writing Release Notes
Love how this solves the "where the heck are our release notes?" problem! π― Been using GitHub releases forever but they're not the most user-friendly for non-tech folks. The automatic RSS feed is a neat touch, and the fact that it's open source is chef's kiss. Definitely giving this a spin for our next release cycle - might actually get people to read our updates for once! π
@_ivan1 Thanks Ivan, I built this exactly for that reason, making release notes accessible for everyone, not just the tech users.
Hope it helps make your release notes more engaging! π
