Forget the Zoom clones or "virtual offices". This is different. Since late 2019, three of us worked every day & night to shape a stellar experience for collaborating remotely. Slack is no longer enough. Our users are already using Noor for hours every day!

Hey PH friends! πŸ‘‹ I'm so excited to back after 2 years! We were heads down building for the whole period. It was first a team time zone app, but now it's SO MUCH BETTER. Here's why... How it started Since we made There timezone app for remote workers, we noticed a much bigger challenge. I've worked remotely for global teams, but in our own team, we sometimes worked in our office, and most of the time from home. This resulted in realizing **how much we lose when we switch from the office**. πŸ€” When you feel the mid-work office chats rapid collaboration, you can't go back to just Slack. Going Slack-only made it: β€’ Hard to help teammates with code. β€’ All the impromptu chats were lost β€’ Many conversations didn't happen just because we had a limited communication method β€’ ... and Zoom was just not it. πŸš€ So we started building Noor for ourselves πŸ˜‡ πŸŽ™ One click to talk Once we had voice chat built, we opened used it instead of many Slack chats. It just felt a LOT nicer to talk😍, like we're used to doing in the office. πŸ–₯ Instant collaboration What if we could recreate walking up to a teammate's desk? A faster, collaborative screen-share that you switch to? We made a prototype, and shouted: "THIS WAS IT". It felt so good, we even use it when we're 3 feet apart. πŸ‘©β€πŸ’» Every detail matters From how you join lobby rooms, sound design, keyboard shortcuts, animations, and the fully new notification we've designed. All to make an incredible experience. ------- You might ask... 1. Did you build it for the Covid? Will it disappear? Actually we started in late 2019, and since we're using it every single day, it won't disappear, nor get sold. 2. Isn't this against async work? In fact, it compliments it. Rapid collaboration and bouncing ideas back & forth are required for incredible creations. 3. What's the average age of your team? 23.3 years old. 4. How is it different from Zoom, or recent apps like Tandem and Around? When we started, these recent apps weren't even released! I've written in detail in https://usenoor.com/faq on how our approach is radically different (and better, because we re-thought how chats should work from the ground-up) ----- I want to especially thank my cofounder @brajabi and teammate @MoeinDana that have worked on Noor for more than a year tirelessly. ❀️ Also, thanks to people who've helped us in someway along the way, Phil Pluckthun, Sara Vieira, Daniel Zarick, Julian Targowsky, Daniel Gross, Jackson, Andreas, Guillermo, and many more. Thanks to Chris for hunting Noor.

?makers Congratulations on the launch! I like how you have positioned it (not entirely a Zoom substitute) but would love to know more about the use-cases you have in mind. Collaborative environments for coding, brainstorming on Notion etc... these come to my mind. Also, what's the story behind the name 'Noor'?

@adityavsc Noor means "light" in languages like Turkey, Persian, Arabic, etc :) Let's imagine what you have in-person: 1. You have the office environments (chats, breaks, jokes, games, coworking, helping each other quickly, coming together for lunch, etc) 2. Slack 3. Meeting room Now when you go remote, you only have: 1. ???? 2. Slack 3. Zoom What happens to the first part? Bingo, you lost it, and you don't even know it can be solved. We solved it. Is it more clear now? You can use it for anything, 1. Chat instead of Slack 2. Collaborating in any app 3. Being present for your junior devs 4. Getting feedback on your work quickly, 5. Small meetings, 1:1s, etc 6. Helping teammates instantly 7. Getting together impromptu in a room, 8. Passively inviting the team to talking & playing using room names 9. Handling emergency situations so elegantly when every one needs to be available 10. Non-work chats and checking on teammates 11. etc
