Hey 😸, 3 years ago, I decided that I would eat less meat*. After a couple of weeks (ok, probably days), it became impossible to get an idea of how much I’d changed. It was discouraging. I wanted the simplest app, one that would ask me “Did you eat meat today?” at the end of the day via push notification, and I would be able to answer without opening the app. So I built that and started using it right away.👨‍💻📲 But logging is half the job. I needed to see the history, and that’s when I got carried away. I imagined that I’d attract cows 🐄 for my meatless meals and that they would graze on my planet 🌎, which would also serve as the “NO” meat button. My cow rewarding system brought the flexibility I wanted: have another meatless meal within 8 days, and your cows will stick around. Otherwise, they’ll start to leave. So you can be on a "pseudo streak" and keep attracting cows even if you do eat meat (unless you opt for the veg(etari)an goal). Also, looking at my history of meals is really helpful to decide if that burger will have meat or if I have to test my will and choose the meatless option. More generally, it helps me balance my diet. I call all of that asking Naomi 🐮, my cowch. Fast forward 2.5 years: I discovered that other people wanted it 🤯. So I decided it was time to stop the side project mode (you know, when you add all the latest SDK features but never really complete any) and publish the first version. After all, I was the living proof it worked. So here’s my app: silly, simple, fun, cute, rewarding, flexible and respectful of your privacy. Yeah, I’m weird, I don’t track a single thing you do besides Apple's reports and purchases (wink @RevenueCat), and you can export all your data in JSON. Only on iOS. Android fan? Motivate me here: https://airtable.com/shrc0YABm2w... 🙌 Thank you @chrismessina for hunting No Meat Today and for being sincerely committed to helping others. #YouRock 👉 https://nomeat.today * I’m not here to advocate anything, I decided that based on a mix of factors (environment - there’s more to it than climate change -, ethics, finance, health) and I am still trying to figure out how far I should go. I’m not here to tell anyone what they should do, only to offer a friendly app to those who want to do the same.

Haha this is funny af. You get a upvote because you made me laugh xD

@abeykoshyitty Glad it made you laugh, I'm having a lot of fun with this project. I tend to forget the jokes I put inside the app, so I often end up giggling even though I wrote them.

Congrats Arnaud! Not that long that shifted to a plant based diet and dont think ill ever go back to eating meat. Yet super cool idea. Simple but meets its purpose. I am actually building an app myself but more of a plant based restaurants directory.. Kinda Happycow but free and "opensource" where people submit their own fav places and they go straight to the app. All done with no code and will be avaialable for iOS and Android. Integrating, airtable, typeform and using zapier. Im part of Bravo Studio team so if you wish to do the android version we could help you out building it super fast. DM me and we can look into it. Will pass on your app among friends!

@pedrocodina Hey Pedro, good idea, finding venues offering meatless meals can be a challenge! Keep me posted! It would be fun to see what BS can do for an Android version, I'll DM you.

Thanks for making this @sowenjub ! Very playful, and I'm glad you kept the app simple with no user tracking. Experiencing a bug where I can't save my target number of meatless days at the moment though – if I drag the slider to anything more than 0 and press 'Save', the slider is reset back to 0 again, with that screen still open [iOS 13.3.1]. Edit: same goes for the meals per day setting – can't increase past 1 :(

@iamsebj Thanks I'll check this out!

Awesome stuff @sowenjub ! I woke up this morning and thought "I want to eat less meat today" - (I prefer a vegan diet but get side tracked with life). And then I open my email and see your App. Ha ha, definitely going to use it. Let me know if you want user feedback.
Arnaud Joubay
@margot_birbeck Haha, what a coincidence! Of course I want user feedback, it's really easy to send some via the app, looking forward to yours!

This is a cool idea. World needs more applications like this. 👏

Make one for No Cheese Today
Arnaud Joubay
@androidlove Well, you can use the app for that, you get to define what "meat", and dairy is one of the options to toggle on/off. But I'm considering a No Cheese Today app, either as a standalone or just by changing the dynamics of No Meat Today. Do tell me about your situation / use case, that's interesting.

I've been a perfectly content meat eater my entire life until I discovered the impact it has on the environment. I've always known its bad, but finding out it's responsible for about 26% of the worlds emissions... (https://climatechoice.co/change-...) I'm down to two small portions of chicken or fish a week, two months in, totally happy with the progress and going down to one meat a week now. Thank you!
