@alex_dyadischev Thank you for the support!
Huge congrats on the launch of Yem, the intelligent news assistant! Handpicking relevant insights daily is a game-changer. Could you share more about the technology behind Yem's ability to craft custom updates, and how it ensures users receive the most pertinent information?
Surya Manivannan
@ricardo_luz Thank you for recognizing the potential in Yem! At the heart of Yem is the belief in truly understanding our users. Yem has a conversation with each user to grasp the nuances of their interests. Once we have this clarity, Yem performs searches tailored to these specific interests using search apis. The real magic happens next: using GPT-4, we craft insightful and non-redundant updates for the user. It's like having a researcher and writer working just for you. There are some other tech and algorithms we’re using like vector databases but I hope this gives some clarity on the tech behind Yem. May I ask, what topics would you be interested in following using Yem?
Surya Manivannan
@ricardo_luz Fantastic choices in topics! Within coding, art & design, and entrepreneurship, are there any specific interests you’re particularly keen on? If you’re using iOS, please join the waitlist on the app. We’d love to get you onboarded as soon as possible!
Surya Manivannan
@ricardo_luz Do you mean windows phone or windows OS? because if you are iPhone we can get you onboarded now. If not I’ll definitely let you know once our web version is ready 😊
Surya Manivannan

Launching soon!
@surya_manivannan1 Yem sounds like an amazing personal news companion! Could you share more about the customization options for users?
Surya Manivannan
@exo_cody Appreciate your interest! So standard news platforms let you choose broad categories (e.g., sports, tech) and then they suggest articles based on their algorithms assumptions about your interests. In contrast, Yem talks with users to understand their specific interests, from player trades and your favorite teams performance in basketball to new startups in generative AI or regulatory updates on self driving cars. You not only decide what topics to follow, but HOW to follow a topic. Hope this answers your question :) We'd also love to hear what specific interests you'd like to follow using Yem. Looking forward to your response!

- the branding is confusing. Yem or MyNewsBuddy? - you should have some clear statement about ethics, how do you deal with supporting biases in people. - I will definitely try it, but I can tell almost 100% I won't use it for a longer period of time because of the moral hazard it brings (or have you solved this problem somehow?)
Surya Manivannan
@jan_zavesky Thanks for the feedback! - I understand your confusion. Yem is the AI assistant that powers the app, while "MyNewsBuddy" is the app's current name. We're actively considering aligning the app's name closer to the assistant's for clarity. - We aim to provide personalized news without amplifying biases. Could you elaborate on your concerns about biases? I'd be eager to address them! - I'd appreciate clarity on the moral hazards you're referencing. We strive to maintain ethical standards in our news delivery. Once again, thank you for your insights. We're continuously looking to improve, and feedback like yours is invaluable.
Jan Záveský
@surya_manivannan1 The obvious and hard to solve moral hazard lays in the fact that the system is making decisions for the user. the user is delegating some of their competences to the system: what if the system is not making the right decisions in the interest of the user but in the interest of itself (i.e. of the entity which deployed it)? I find this quite hard problem. To continuously prove that the system is in the blue team. Only valid solution is to opensource or be as transparent as possible.
Surya Manivannan
@jan_zavesky You raise a valid point regarding the potential moral hazard. I'd like to clarify that our system operates differently. In many existing platforms, algorithms dictate and decide a user's interests based on their browsing habits. Conversely, in our app, users directly communicate their preferences to our assistant. They specify the topics and their interests within those topics. Our assistant's role is to scan all relevant information for that day related to the user's interests and then craft custom, non-redundant updates. Essentially, it's like having a personal researcher who delivers only what you've asked for. This ensures our users receive comprehensive insights without the influence of an algorithm's bias. We're also continually exploring ways to increase transparency to ensure users feel confident in the information presented to them. Hope this has addressed your concerns! If not, I'd love to further discuss this :)
Jan Záveský
@surya_manivannan1 OK, now I see, there is no magic, it's just direct "text to preferencies" interface.
Surya Manivannan
@jan_zavesky Exactly, Jan! At its core, news is just information. Everyone has unique preferences on what they want to know and how they'd like to receive it. Our aim with Yem is to simplify and personalize this process, ensuring everyone stays updated or learns in the most convenient way. We're glad you understand our mission! On that note, I'd love to know: what issues do you face with the current news system? And what topics would you'd like to follow through Yem?"
Maali Baali
