Mentory is a community of on demand mentors, thinkers and doers that are ready to help you to improve in your professional and personal life, one conversation at a time.
@perte you're right! I didn't know that site! it looks like that our freelance designer got some "inspiration" from their palette - I'm passing by your comments to see what can be done so folks don't get confused with both brandings. Thanks for flagging it 😉
@perte@jmramos Sorry but I find it a little hard to believe that you've never seen the logo of Musixmatch. They have been around for many years and their app is constantly featured on app stores. In addition, it's obviously not just the color palette, it's also the logo.
Even if you had personally never seen it, then surely somebody else on your team, a friend or a relative would have. It's quite baffling that you didn't take the time to at least ask people what they think about the logo of your upcoming company. If you had, somebody would have pointed out the similarities to Musixmatch for sure.
@perte while the visual identity isn't perfect yet, I think that a simple logo like the noe we have from Shutterstock will do the job for now. Now, time to keep working on bringing great mentors aboard and have folks to book sessions with them 😊
I really like the idea for your app; to connect experienced individuals with ones who are pressed for advice and guidance.
One reservation I have about your advertisement is the focus on millennials may alienate your other target consumers.
@shagun_kazan Thanks for stopping by and totally agree with you! However, at this early stage, we prefer to focus on a group of people whose motivations are very clear to us, specially because we're millenials ourselves.
Let's say that, in the beginning, we intend to focus on the smallest viable audience (millennials interested in a career change or in growing in their current roles) and keep broadening the audience from there in the future 😊
Hey everyone!
Professional development is not an easy task. If you never had a coaching session before, or if you just graduated and are trying to pass your first interview, it can be incredibly daunting. It was for me, at least.
A couple of years ago, I was lucky enough to have a coaching experience during my job at Apple, where my coach would help me to discover answers to daily challenges that I faced in such a fast paced organisation. This got me thinking, how can I help to make this experience available to more people around the globe that don’t have neither the resources nor access to a network of mentors?
What if you could go online and book a session with a professional career mentor that will help you to practice mock interviews or redesign your résumé ?
This is the idea behind Mentory, a place where people who are ready to take the next step in life can grow and help others along the way; one conversation at a time.
Do let me know if you have any feedback!

Let me sum up the points I've made via your Intercom:
# "Career mentoring" — it's debatable whether you really deliver what you claim. 'Beating the ATS' and 'acing the mean interviewer's questions' is not career advice or mentoring.
# It's also debatable, whether HR people who have never in their lives have seen anything outside their HR / recruitment bubble are the best sources of career advice for a fast-changing world.
# If you check out the existing mentors: How can one give a "CV makeover" and "Linkedin optimization" advice when their CVs on Mentory and on LI do not match / do not exist?
# All copy for mentors is currently in Spanish, although the app seems to be in English and targeted at English-speakers. Doesn't look very inviting / looks confusing.
What do you think about above points?
Forgive my German bluntness:
As it is now, I think there is a mismatch between what you are offering and what is actually there.
What's your target group? (more specific than "Millenials"...) Have you tested it already? If yes, how? Why you think the price point / pricing strategy is right for this group? Where do you want to go with this generally? Is it actual career advice and long-term mentoring or just a quick "fix my CV" type of thing? (Frankly, I think both have a place — it's just not clear what you are offering)
@roman_abashin While "Beating the ATS" AND "Acing interviewer's questions" aren't career advice, if you can learn how to do both, I'm sure that you're better positioned to advance your career.
I've worked with many HR people who are tech savvy, so I expect to bring some people like this aboard. Also, many non HR people are more than well prepared to provide career advice, in fact, an UX professional from a top tech company is joining our mentors board this week to help folks with mock interviews and projects feedback.
We're fine if LinkedIn experience and what you list in the platform don't match 100% as long as mentors can help others and are nice to people.
While copy is in English, few of the current mentors are from non-English speaking countries, that could explain why some of the mentors that you saw had the profile in Spanish.
More than millennials which is a broad group and are today over 50% of the workforce in countries like the US, we're focusing on people from this generation who want to change jobs and need to ace their interviews and people who want to keep growing in their current jobs and need a toolkit that only more experienced members could provide in a form of long term relationships.
Definitely your comments helped me to think about the product and our offering, thanks for sharing them 😉
The idea of matching mentors and mentees has been around for a while. However, a huge challenge in executing this is to have that network of mentors beyond general career counseling. How are you planning on getting that supply onboard? IMHO you need some serious influencer/podcast marketing...
@nipungupta you're totally right, one of the biggest challenges is to have a good supply side. We're manually reaching out to potential mentors who are experts on their fields at top companies like Microsoft, Apple or Oracle. We've added 4 more of them in the last couple of days. We expect to get a few more in Jan 2020.
The influencer way could add some serious value, thanks for suggesting it!
Idea seems neat, however 1. when trying to create a profile, it says my linkedin URL is invalid, even though I copy pasted the link to my profile, 2. there is no option to help with general career advice, training, or even create a custom offering.
@valentinprgnd Thanks for the feedback. I'll follow up with you directly via email if you don't mind so I can fix that bug. On point 2, we did a soft-launch with some beta users and moved from a custom offering as you mentioned (default config of Mentory) to a specific topics model (current config) as several users said that they would find easier to now what they can offer instead of facing a blank canvas when creating the listing. Anyway, we're planning to add custom offerings + predefined services in a short future :)
