Most people in the U.S. probably haven't heard of this app, even though it's been around since 2008. It just released in the U.S. and starting to go hashtag viral.
It uses facial recognition and AR to make your selfies beautiful/creepy, similar to Snapchat lenses. For example:
For the love of God don't download it. On iOS it looks for jailbreak permissions, and then does malicious things if you have it. But on androif, it sends your imei (unique phone identification) to China
Uhhh yeah guys this app is almost certainly used for Very Bad Things (at least on Android). It's for sure sending IMEI, MAC Address and more to IPs in China. I'd bet the iOS version does what it can as well. http://www.androidpolice.com/201...
Is the demo video really making this guys eyes more "western"? Yikes. Also, I don't think anyone in the west wants to look like Anime, but I may be wrong.
Security and privacy experts raise questions about viral selfie app Meitu's app permissions like GPS, call and carrier info, more that are unrelated to core use ...
I really appreciate PH for being such an open door for many companies to get their products easily out to the masses, but I think apps, such as this one, that are basically a little fun on top of massive personal information and security breaches really shouldn't be permitted. I get it, it's fun, but at a massive expense and not worthy of the PH fistbump.
I'm trying to decide if I like this better than BeautyPlus, which is likely Meitu's knockoff cousin...
BeautyPlus is an almost identical app, here's my extreme example:

haha cool app but I found it rather complicated to use.. plus I ended up in a windows computer at some point. I played with it for awhile and couldn't figure out how to make the selfies as advertised. Deleted after 5 minutes.
