Hi everyone and gm! When Oliver and I were running our e-commerce agency and helping merchants scale to global markets, we often found ourselves in situations where the recommended solutions for problems on platforms like Shopify were so “hacky” that we were cringing while writing the code. We decided to do something about it by building the platform we always wanted: Medusa - an open-source alternative to Shopify, that is headless, highly customizable, and developer-friendly! We built Medusa in collaboration with Tekla Fabrics, who in less than 2 years grew from a small domestic brand to now selling to more than 50 countries around the world. In the process, we learned how important it is for fast-growing e-commerce businesses to be able to change out parts of their tech-stack in a quick and efficient way so we have built Medusa’s architecture to allow for exactly that! Out of the box, you get a beautiful and user-friendly admin system and a commerce engine with extremely powerful default implementations for dealing with products, orders, payments, customers, promotions, taxes, search, and much more, and the most amazing thing is that when you need to you can take full control over any part of Medusa and make it your own. We hope that you all give Medusa a try and get a chance to feel the same empowerment that we felt when working with the first version of Medusa. @anastasiia_holiachenko Thanks a lot Anastasiia! <3 We will share a more detailed roadmap in the coming week for Q1, but a few of the highlights are: - Improving our promotions API: Giving more granular control of product availability, discount starts and similar while enabling more targeted discounts (e.g. towards loyal customer groups) - Bulk import/export: To better handle large portions of data extracts / inputs of products, orders, customers etc. - Introducing strategies: Enabling developers to override core logic in Medusa in cases where such overrides are necessary (e.g. when we make opinionated decisions in our code)

This looks great, I'm a huge fan of Shopify and ran a store for nearly 8 years. I agree that I've written some horrible code to get Shopify to do what I want (like manually building/concatenating checkout strings and applying tiered discounts for a bundle builder, all in the frontend) but one of the massive benefits is the PCI compliance aspect that Shopify brought, not just for the checkout but also the customer records management side of things. Do you have anything that addresses that part? Congratulations on the launch, this must have been a huge undertaking

@simon_barker1 Hehe, yes, we have seen that a couple of times before with Shopify. Great product to get started quickly, not so easy to scale with and extend further down the road. We actually avoiding storing credit data for the compliance reason you mention here :-)

@simon_barker1 thanks Simon sounds like you are familiar with the struggle :D You are right that PCI compliance is really just plug and play with Shopify, however, most newer payment gateways make it equally easy to deal with PCI. We are pretty agnostic to how you handle payments, but if your setup doesn't require you to directly handle sensitive card details you can use something like Stripe Elements. We have out of the box integrations with Stripe, Klarna, Adyen, Paypal and are looking to add many more in the future. As far as I know all of these allow you to deal with PCI without too much hassle - in Stripe it is literally just clicking a button :) Once again thanks for the kind words 💜
