Hi everyone! I originally launched Mattebox in 2011. Now, after taking a quick 10 year break (🤯), I'm back with a new version! 🌰 Mattebox in a nutshell: Mattebox is a zero-AI photo & video editing app focused on doing "less, but better." It's designed to make your images look amazing with minimal effort. ✔︎ Removes the "over-processed" look to give you a more natural photographic image ✔︎ Custom image processing core modeled on the way analog film responds to light ✔︎ Mattebox Pro gives you advanced controls like Curves and Pro Diffusion ✔︎ Create, share & export filters easily 📸 Who Mattebox is for: Someone who has shot with a DSLR or used a tool like Adobe Lightroom in the past, but wants something faster and lighter-weight for iPhone snaps. ~OR~ someone who is leveling up their photography/videography for the first time. 🏆 Key differentiators: Even though the photo & video app market is beyond saturated, Mattebox has some differentiators: ➔ Image quality: I couldn't find another editing app that handled RAW files to my taste. ➔ No-install filter sharing: Share a filter as an App Clip using a link/QR code—no install required. ➔ Export filters to LUTs or Lightroom: Use your filters in Lightroom, Photoshop, FCP, Premiere, Resolve—or virtually any photo/video app. 🍿 Rebooting the franchise: My story! This is less of a new version, and more of a complete reboot of the franchise. I rewrote the app from scratch during COVID lockdown, and have been using it and iterating it for years. Now it's time for my family photo app to leave the nest. It's honestly amazing to see what kind of image quality you can achieve with ProRAW files on iPhone Pro models once you remove all the over-processing. 🙏 Thank you! I’d love your feedback on anything from the app to the marketing. I’ve been out of the game for a long time, and I know I’ve got a lot to learn and catch up on. Thanks for checking out Mattebox!

@bensyverson Congrats on the relaunch of Mattebox! It’s inspiring to see such dedication after a decade-long break, especially with a focus on quality and simplicity. The analog film-inspired processing and no-install filter sharing are standout features—how do you see Mattebox complementing apps like Lightroom on mobile, and what’s the response to the filter-sharing feature so far? Wishing you great success with the reboot!

@bensyverson Congrats on the Launch, Ben! 🎉 Love the focus on simplicity and quality—it’s so refreshing. I’m curious, how does Mattebox handle RAW files from different cameras (like Sony or Canon)? Also, any plans to expand the filter sharing feature for direct social sharing? Can’t wait to try it out! ✨

@tonyabracadabra Thanks Tony. It's still early days, so I'm waiting to see what the reaction is to filter sharing! When it comes to Lightroom, my own workflow is to use Mattebox for my mobile photos, and Lightroom Classic on the desktop for DSLR/mirrorless photos. But I'm curious to see how people use it!

@helen9 Thank you Helen! Mattebox handles RAW files from over 820 cameras, including all the favorites from Canon & Sony. If you don't have these files in your Photo Library, you can access them from the Files picker (File icon in the bottom nav of the photo browser in Mattebox). The filter system is actually based on Mastodon, so if people really get into sharing filters, I could build out likes, follows and so forth directly in the app.

Congrats on the launch! The photo effects shown in the video look really great. Can this app be installed or used on Android? I’d like to have a try :)

@bensyverson That’s great. I can try it on my iPad or the website for now.😀 I really like the feature of no-install filter sharing.

Without AI? Hmm, that’s really unexpected and interesting!

@alexin Ha, I suppose it is unusual in 2024! Don't get me wrong, I love a good AI product. But for my photos & videos, I want something simpler, less processed, and connected to reality. 😁
