A new form of deliberate communication with the joys of digital collecting and making pen-pals across the world.
Immersive letter-writing experience made for the iPad
Greetings, wonderful people of ProductHunt! We are thrilled to be a part of this incredible community and officially announce the launch of our little passion project, Lettre.app
At Lettre.app, we’re creating an app to breathe new life into the timeless art of letter writing. Using our app, designed exclusively for the iPad and Apple Pencil, you can send hand written letters to your closest ones and make PenPals around the globe.
With postage comes stamps! You can collect and trade stamps, created by gifted independent artists from across the world. Pippin, our carrier pigeon, strikes the perfect balance of leisure and anticipation in delivery, underlining that communication, at its best, is a careful, thoughtful craft.

OUR STORY
It all started when Mashfique handed an ipad to his father, a gifted writer, newspaper columnist, and a poet at heart. However, Parkinson’s shadowed his joy for writing— the tremors didn’t allow him the grace of pressure on paper, and his touch sensitivity was far from ideal for mobile screens. Their distances, with his dad in Bangladesh and him in the US, only amplified the communication challenges. Talking became strenuous, stripping him of his vibrant storytelling energy. Then, last January, a simple gesture changed everything. Mashfique handed him an iPad with an Apple Pencil, and the spark in his eyes said it all.
It was around that time when Mashfique and I crossed paths again during my time at San Francisco after decades since we last saw each other as children , where we discovered our shared interests and love for building things. Hearing about Mashfique rekindling his father's passion for writing, his positive response encouraged us and confirmed the idea had potential. Adding stamps to the mix was the icing on the cake! With the validation we needed, we decided to dive in, head first. Over the next three months, we took our idea and ran with it. We made it available through an open beta and refined it, polished it through numerous iterations, and finally; today we have a solid lovable product we believe you will enjoy using as much as we loved building it.
THE PRODUCT
Lettre is a beautiful way to express yourself and share your thoughts with the most special people in your life. It can serve as a notebook, box of stationery, an entire post office in your ipad, your childhood hobby of collecting stamps and so much more—the possibilities are endless!
This is just the beginning, with Lettre being in its early stages. We have an array of exciting features we want to build and we sincerely seek your support in bringing them to life. Please take a moment to explore the app, leave us a review and kindly share your valuable feedback with us. We greatly appreciate it.
We want to express our heartfelt gratitude to all of you for being a part of this journey.
Hopefully with your love and support, we can go a long way
@atik_hossain Pippin, the carrier pigeon - I dig the story and aesthetic behind this. It's lovely to see how a small suggestion blossomed into this fantastic app. Congrats on the launch!
@wintoniak Thank you so much for your kind words <3 Pippin has been super fun to work with and we are incredibly glad that you "dig the story and aesthetic behind this". Means a lot to us
@wintoniak thank you so much, bringing Pippin to life was a very organic and heartfelt process, we all feel like we brought this birb into being with all the qualities we'd want in a best friend.
We might bring in more characters in the future -- the whacky adventures of Pippin and friends (and enemies). Watch this space!
Lettre.app is a delightful blend of modern technology and the timeless charm of handwritten letters. The story behind its creation, where it rekindled a father's passion for writing despite physical challenges, is truly heartwarming. The idea of using an iPad and Apple Pencil to facilitate letter writing is not just practical but also deeply sentimental
How do users interact with this feature, and what inspired you to incorporate stamps into the platform?
@gipetto We are using stamps as in-app "currency" to initiate communication with another user -- every time you want to send a lettre, depending on the "distance" it has to travel, you need to assign a certain number of stamps (could be one or two or three).
Each stamp is tradeable and giftable, so if you send the lettre and stamps to another user on the app, they get ownership of the stamps and can either store them in their collection or reuse the stamps you sent them. This way, you only have to make a purchase on the stamp store (coming soon) if you want to support an artist, not necessarily for communication.
We wanted to incorporate artists into the platform in a meaningful way, and we're all gamers who have spent ungodly amounts of time and effort (and money) on CSGO and Rocket League and World of Warcraft, so we wanted to bring in a digital collectible aspect to it as well. Lettre should be a platform for digital artists as much as people wanting to write, doodle, do whatever they want with a blank canvas. And stamps are on theme!
@gipetto Just adding a side-note to what @shaer_reaz already said; new users start with their own unique stamp pack containing 15 hand crafted stamps based on monuments across the world. When signing up, the region you select will basically reward you with a starter stamp pack from that region. Eg, if you sign up from NA, you will get the NA stamp pack; which is different from say, the Asian pack or the Europe pack ^_^
@gipetto Thank you for recognizing the depth and intent behind Lettre.app. The iPad and Apple Pencil integration is designed to seamlessly blend technology with the cherished tradition of handwriting.
Given the interest, we're preparing to unveil some notable updates related to stamps in an upcoming product launch. Your continued feedback and support are invaluable to us.
In the early 90s I had a pen pal from Russia and I sent him a $1 bill and he sent it back months later with the words "Fuck" on it. I obviously didn't know what the Soviet Union was or anything back then and we were pretty naive little kids at the time.
Either way it was hilarious to think about later on as I realized they were probably offended because we sent a dollar bill to show our currency and they probably interpreted it as us calling them poor.
@kingromstar that's an amazing story XD Do you still have the dollar bill? I'd frame it!
The stamps are practically the same concept, we want each stamp to have an imprint of all the people's lives it has improved. Each time you write a lettre and receive a response, there's two things you'd feel like cherishing from the interaction -- the contents of the lettre itself, and the stamp associated with it. The more artists we bring in and the more variety we get for the stamps, the better you'll be able to choose which stamp to use for a friend, make it more personal.
Russian stamps were OG though, especially the commemorative Interkosmos stamps!
What a wonderful idea! At a time when all communications are instantaneous, I think it's great to give written correspondence back its letters of nobility.
Also, I loved the video 🙌 Congrats for your launch!
@luc_fernandez Thank you so much for the love <3 It's truly rewarding for the team to see people love the idea behind a more deliberate and personal form of communication; especially when all communications are instantaneous with little to no personal character/charm
@amdfad lovely validation for the product marketing side of things, thanks Fahad! Love what you guys are doing with Wind as well, seems like a real gamechanger!
Writing a digital letter with Lettre.app sounds like a fun twist, especially if you're a fan of hand-written notes. Watching the video, it seems like the delivery might have a personal touch depending on the recipient's location. It gives me vibes of the Slowly app on Android, but Lettre.app's handwritten approach feels even more intriguing.
@angelo_galang You're right. Lettre.app has a few of similar features like Slowly. But we intend to provide more dynamic and immersive experience with detailed appearances in a device like iPad.
Thanks for the support! <3
@angelo_galang Thank you so much for the love and support! Getting appreciation for all the hard work everyone in the team put in is a reward by itself <3
@millie_crystal Thank you for your kind words. I am just the mouthpiece, it took the effort of the entire team to make this a reality.
Forever grateful
The story behind this product is so melting! 😊 Will it be available for Android devices and accessible to Android touch pens too. Early waiting to experience the bliss of writing.
@josephine912 Thank you for your kind words. About Android devices, the best answer I can give you right now is a solid "maybe" :P
We have a lot of cool stuff we want to build for lettre on the ipad first, once that is done and we have a few awards; we will think of bigger plans as we grow.
Thank you once again for your support <3
In a world where digital communication reigns supreme, Lettre.app stands as a beacon of nostalgia, offering a refreshing and deliberate departure from the instantaneous exchanges that dominate our daily lives. This innovative platform pays homage to the lost art of letter writing, allowing users to savor the pleasure of slow post in an age of rapid-fire messaging.
@beverly_evans1 Well articulated and thank you for the support! We created Lettre.app to bring back that cherished pace and detail of communication. It's heartening to see it resonates.
Congrats on the launch, I think it's a fun, intriguing, and valuable idea to restore some of the joys of a different form of communication and perhaps introduce new generations to a form of communication they may never really utilize. I also like your plans for introducing an option for sending physical letters. Given people may no longer have the supplies needed to produce and mail a letter, it might be a nice option for some.
@adam_fry Thank you very much for your support and thoughtful contributions to our creation. It would be enjoyable for groups of friends to exchange real lettres. Best regards on your release. <3
I love this! Except my pad broke. Lol maybe one day I can take a picture of a handwritten note. Great concept, I love the stamps. Artists would love to design stamps! I will write about this in one of my newsletters!! Awesome product
@candytoybox Thank you so much for your kind words! Please link your newsletter, would love to sub.
Also, we do want to work with artists to create unique stamp packs; please connect with us if you're interested in collaborations
Lettre.app believes in the power of unhurried conversations. It harks back to the days when letters were penned, each word meticulously chosen, and the sender would eagerly anticipate the reply. In a world inundated with hastily typed messages and emoji-laden responses, Lettre.app rekindles the joy of meaningful exchange.
@arnold_ortiz1 This person gets it^
Haha, thank you so much! Appreciate your feedback. We want to bring back the deliberation and depth in the ways we communicate, which we seem to have lost with time
Amazing to think that we're getting an app that not only redefines the way we communicate but also introduces a new way of community building through stamps that have been all around the world. I feel giddy just thinking about the adventures that my stamps would have around the world!
Congratulations on the product launch. There’s something very organic and refreshing about being able to craft a letter myself and send it to my friends. I tried it already with some of my peers and almost all of em got incredibly happy. Also the UI looks very charming, although it still needs to add some functionalities like being able to drop images and more options for selecting paper type would be nice. Kudos to the developers and I would very much like to see where they can take this app from here.
@fahad_hasan4 images as attachments is a bit of a challenge for us, as I told Atik and the rest of the team -- image attachments are the fastest way to facilitate sending d**k pics and we have a problem with that. Even if sending of d**k pics or nudes is your love language, it should take some effort. If you want to draw a self portrait on the lettre and send it...be my guest 😛
