When we launched the iOS version a few months ago a lot of people asked about Android. Today I'm happy to say the app has been published on the store and is available for all. Here is the deal, there's already many Japanese language learning app out there but they all focus on text books and school curriculum. Kann let you pick and choose what you are interested in (business, anime, food, slangs...) and help you level up faster. Vocabulary is what we all lack in Japanese so I build this app to help me learn and progress faster. I'm adding new dictionary and topics often, don't hesitate to ask for a specific topic! Have fun learning Japanese you care about!

@aaoa awesome, thanks for catering to us Android users 🙏

@manuhortet You're welcome! I'm an Android user too, but SwiftUI was easier for me to start 😅

@sonu_goswami2 Thank you! It was harder than I thought 🤯

Does it also have any paid plan?

Anatole Ambroise Oïshi Ayadi

@busmark_w_nika Yes there is a paid plan (Monthly / Yearly) and also a one time payment option. However, the available content in the Free tier is set to last for about 6 to 9 months of practice (regular quiz length and daily activity) it contains Kana, Radicals, Kanji, an Advanced dictionary about Design, and a dictionary with the first 1000 most common words. The additional Dictionaries are paid.

Congrats! Does it have a review and testing feature to check the user’s learning progress?

Anatole Ambroise Oïshi Ayadi

@focusaur Thanks! You have a simple visual tracking system on each Character or Word entry as well as Progress tracking for each section in the Profile page.

I am learning Japanese, but I tend to forget words quickly. I wonder if this app can help users reinforce their vocabulary?

Anatole Ambroise Oïshi Ayadi

@evakk That is the exact goal! I'm right there with you and that is one of the reasons Kann exist today. It is using a Spaced repetition system (Kinda like Anki) that prioritise small chunks of words in a specific topic you care about. Than it's on you to practice and go through the quiz to make the word stick. Personally mastered the N5 kanjis in about 3 weeks and a good chunk of vocabulary (Slangs mainly) since I started building this app.
がんばります!

Sounds great! I will definitely give it a try!

Great to see Kann expanding to Android! As someone interested in Japanese language learning, I appreciate apps that let you focus on vocabulary that's personally relevant. The iOS version launch in November showed promise, and now Android users can join in. Perfect timing too - launching on Valentine's Day! Looking forward to seeing how the app grows across both platforms. がんばって! (Good luck!)

@xi_z Thank you very much! I'll do my best to keep adding Dictionary in many topics of interest!

@seantiffonnet Thanks a lot! 🎉

Sam @CRANQ

First of all I love the look of the interface, as someone who has watched their fair bit of Anime this might just be the last piece of the puzzle into taking the step to actually learn Japanese.

I like the breakdown into 'Particle Usage, Function & meaning' it seems really intuitive & usable :)

Best of luck w/ the launch Anatole & team!!

Anatole Ambroise Oïshi Ayadi

@cranqnow Thanks a lot! If you are just starting this might not be the best option, unless your anime watching gave you a pretty good pronunciation ability. Let me know if there is anything you'd like to see as an improvement!

Also team is just me so the team say thanks again ✨

Sam @CRANQ

Ahahahhaha probably not right for me!

Paul Muller

Only vocabulary? Is it friendly with beginners?

Anatole Ambroise Oïshi Ayadi

@paul_muller3 Even tho we have the basic Kana and Kanji, the app is meant for mid to advanced learners that are looking to grow their Vocabulary knowledge. The fact that the app only gives you the reading will make you internalise pronunciation mistake if you don't already have a solid base there.

So in short, not really, tho the flash card system might be a good start for memorising meanings.

Launching soon!

First of all, congrats on the launch! Btw, how do you plan to keep users coming back to the app daily?

Anatole Ambroise Oïshi Ayadi

@kay_arkain sheer will power from you! 😅
I'm not one to be pushy and spawn notification in your phone every day. (I hate that for myself, therefor not doing it for the users). If you are motivated enough and the app fit your need, you will come back to learn.
There is the Daily Streak in there but it doesn't have any effect on anything in the app tbh, mostly there for retention (for now)

Attracted by the design! Shared this with my Japanese learning friends and hope we can learn faster - -!

Anatole Ambroise Oïshi Ayadi

@kimmy_zhaooo Highly appreciate that!

Exciting to see Kann making its way to Android! As someone passionate about Japanese language learning, I love apps that let users focus on vocabulary that truly matters to them. The iOS launch in November already showed great potential, and now even more learners can benefit from it.

Perfect timing with the Valentine's Day release! Can’t wait to see how the app evolves across both platforms. がんばって! (Good luck!)
