Keyboard shortcuts are fast and awesome. But there are still many actions that require you to reach out for the mouse. Homerow solves this by allowing you to search and click on every button or link in macOS.
Happy Lunar New Year, Product Hunt! 🍊🌖✨
As a programmer, I found it annoying to constantly switch between the keyboard and mouse when I'm in the zone. While keyboard shortcuts are useful, not every action has a corresponding shortcut. That's why I created Homerow, a macOS productivity app that lets you keep your hands on the keyboard when you need to click on buttons or links.
Homerow allows you search and click on buttons on your screen. It's similar to Spotlight, but for the macOS user interface. Features include:
✅ Search and click on buttons on the frontmost window, menu bar and dock.
✅ All types of clicks: Left click, right click, double click, and command click (aka Open Link in New Tab).
✅ The Tutor 🤓 - Learn about the searchable properties of a UI element by pressing ‘?’.
✅ Disable Search for ergonomics: When search is disabled, labels for all UI elements are always shown, and label-text can be typed without holding Shift. Made for those who ❤️ Vimium and Vimperator.
Homerow works with most native apps, and a growing set of web apps. This includes popular browsers like Chrome, Firefox, Brave, and Arc. If there's an app that doesn't work well with Homerow, please let me know!
The app is currently free to use - but I appreciate any purchases of the license to support a fellow indie developer ❤️.
Enough said, please go check it out! 😄 Do share it with someone you know who would like this!
P.S. I also made Vimac (https://github.com/dexterleng/vimac) a few years back. Homerow is a more polished and performant version of Vimac, taking into account all the things I learned from its predecessor.
@mundgjer I don't use Adobe apps so I haven't had a chance to look into it. Just added it to the backlog! I'll probably just sign up for a trial to test it. https://github.com/dexterleng/ho...
Lately, I completely stopped using the mouse. I work full time in front of my computer (music, programming, etc), and I don't have a mouse at all. = Eliminating wrist-pain is crucial for me as a pianist.
Thanks to:
✅ HOMEROW
✅ SUPERKEY
✅ KEYBOARD MAESTRO
✅ VIMIUM
✅ WARPD
WIth all these apps, you can give your mouse to the cat and never leave your homerow again.

I love this 😁. Also thats cool - I didn't know musicians were using my app! Love to hear any feedback on how Homerow's ergonomics can be further improved.
I started working on Vimac (predecessor of Homerow) because I had a semester of REALLY bad wrist pain from using the trackpad 🤕. I'm glad it has helped you with a similar problem.
Also, I've never heard of warpd - will check it out 👀. Seems helpful for any edge cases Homerow doesn't catch.
@dexter_leng
Thanks. Yes, I just sent you an email with more details.
Musicians that are also geeks uses your app and similar apps :)
Warpd is a fantastic app that I use all the time to act as a mouse.
Some free ideas for you:
Bring back the scroll mode from Vimac. I use it a lot!
Make a similar Mouse-tool as Warpd and integrate it in HomeRow.
Make options to set your preferred keys for Colemak users and other freaks :)
Thanks. No complaints, just see potential improvements.

@mukund_chourey Thanks for the compliment 😁. Fun fact - I worked on Vimac (https://github.com/dexterleng/vimac) a few years back as a side project. I've always been too shy to launch here because I never felt like it was ready. Decided to launch today because the timing will never be 'just right'. Just launch it. 🚀
@usamaejaz As the developer, I would like to explore:
1. Fuzzy search. I make typos all the time, fuzzy search could allow a bit more leeway in my typing 😅
2. Scrolling!
3. Improved accessibility. It's always good to make your apps accessible. Perhaps those with visual impairments could use Homerow driven by voice!
4. More supported apps
Wow, this sounds great! 👍 Now I don't have to feel guilty about not taking breaks from the keyboard! 🙌 Thanks for creating this awesome productivity app! 🤓 Can't wait to give it a try! 🤩
Thanks for the support @mohamed_afiq! That's why in Homerow you can perform a search to filter down the results such that it doesn't clutter up your screen 😉. There is also a "Hide labels when nothing is searched" option which won't show results until you type something.
Wow, looks indispensable for those people who sit at their macbook 24/7 and work from home. I love that we can make our lives easier using your app. Thanks for making the world of "home devs with a cup of coffee in hand" better!
I've been using the app for a while and I'm very pleased with it. It's been a great success and the developer has put a lot of effort into creating this wonderful product. It's of good quality and has been worked on for a long time. If you want to increase your productivity, reduce your mouse usage, and lead a healthier lifestyle, then you should definitely give it a try.
@richard_gao2 thank you! Is there already something like Homerow on Windows?
I know that in some Microsoft apps you can hold the Alt key to show Key Tips, but only on the toolbar buttons.
I have been using Homerow (the alpha version) for over half a year now, and couldn't go back to using my Mac without it. It's become an absolutely invaluable part of how I use my machine and navigate around the screen without having to move my hands away from my keyboard.
Thank you for making it @dexter_leng!
@mxstbr NO THANK YOU! you were one of the first to purchase a license when I nervously ask if anyone would pay for it on Twitter 😅 - I will never forget that! It makes me so happy that even just one person uses it as part of their daily workflow.
I've been using Homerow for a long time and I love it! It really helps me keep my hands on the keyboard.
Dexter is also really responsive on email and on the discord, so all in all highly recommended.
Homerow is just a fantastic app! I'm a big fan. I'm all about keyboards, and Homerow allows me to reach for my trackball less often. I particularly appreciate the Firefox compatibility mode. I can't wait to see where it goes!
