Hi hunters! 🙌 Thanks for checking us out. I wanted to briefly share about why we created Gooroo. After I served in the Korean army for 2 life-changing years, I returned to college and became increasingly overwhelmed by my coursework as the semester progressed. I knew I needed help specifically tailored to my hands-on learning style, and I realized I didn’t even know where to start looking. That’s when I realized Gooroo needed to exist. Our proprietary algorithm matches tutors to students based on fit, and our machine-based learning tools allow us to assist each student throughout their entire learning journey. Absolutely, @eamonn_carey. We take privacy very seriously and follow industry best practices for data management. The student data is persisted in an encrypted form and we take all the necessary measures to ensure that only parents can have access to the feedback. Other than that, we comply with COPPA and only collect data about students under 13 from their parents with consent.

@josephfryling Hi Joe, check out our sample report here: https://bit.ly/2JMSQ2o. Every quarter, customers receive a progress report from their dedicated personal learning consultant. The report contains a summary of feedback we received from tutors after each session, challenges encountered and achievements accomplished by the student during the period, plus an actionable study plan recommended by the consultant. We are also working on adding infographics to the report that visualizes the student's learning frequency, learning focus, and the development of their soft skills.

Thanks for your interest, @fang_liang ! Yes we do have tutors in advanced-level subjects. In fact, Gooroo initially started as a platform matching college students with their peers for one-on-one tutoring. Hi @howonsuh. We currently only focus on the NYC market to make sure we serve the customers here well before we expand. But we are working on tools for virtual learning to accommodate students who want to have sessions with tutors in a different city.

How can I be sure that the tutor won't harm my child?

Great question, @dan_rozycki. We care about our students' safety and happiness a lot so we carefully interview our tutors. We ask questions to gauge their passion for teaching, motivation to join us, personality, teaching style, besides just expertise. Only a small percentage of tutors can make through the interview. After a tutor passes the interview, we run a background check on them. If you are not happy with the tutor, we will match your child with another tutor for free!

I am very impressed by the tutors from Gooroo, also their employees and especially their CEO Scott. My son started work with Gooroo in his six grade for preparation of TACHS and SHSAT. He got very good grades for all tests and got in to a very good high school. He is in 10th grade now and still works with Gooroo tutors. All the tutors that my son works with are supper great and really help a lot. Both my son and I are very happy with them. Is time, location, frequency all flexible to pick for both tutors and students?

@ji_yeon_han Yes! As a student, when you send us a request, you can specify multiple time slots you're available to learn and any location you like. The location can be a specific address or a neighborhood. We'll then match you with tutors available to teach at your time and location. We also give tutors the flexibility to set their travel preferences and weekly schedule. Once you're connected with the tutor, you can discuss with him/her the future schedule and learn as frequent as you'd like.

How are parents involved in terms of developing personalized education curriculum for each students? (Especially for younger students)

Hi @mhnoh14. When parents submit a request, we encourage them to provide us with detailed information about their child. After that, we assign them a Personal Learning Consultant. The consultant is the parent's go-to person for everything learning related, including when they have strong opinions on the curriculum and want to inform the tutor. Of course, they can also communicate with the tutor directly about their needs and develop the curriculum together. Parents' input is essential for the tutor to have as much context about the student as possible, especially in the beginning of the relationship. After each session, we ask tutors to provide feedback on the session to the parent to keep them in the loop of their child's learning. Our goal is to facilitate communication between parents and tutors and help them get aligned on the curriculum and strategies.

Unlike other tutor matching services, we care about the student's development after they are matched with our tutors. We're involved in every phase of their learning, providing feedback to the parent after each session, and following up to make sure their needs are always fulfilled. Compared to traditional tutoring business, we strive to be transparent about our prices and pay our tutors top rates.
