On Friday the 13th I went online with a crazy idea, it's a system that enables people to write messages that are delivered after they pass away. This is how it works: Write messages, add photos, files, and even record videos using your smartphone. They are not sent. Choose how to notify us of your passing with either: > "Friend's Check: Share a secret code with a trusted person. When you pass away, they enter the code on our dedicated page to confirm, triggering message delivery. > "Self Check: Set periodic check-ins. If you don't respond within the specified time, your messages are automatically sent. What do you think?

I have no doubt that this can be a success however, products like these always leave me thinking about how far should AI go, do you think there’s any ethical dilemmas associated to this?

@maria_freitas Oi Teresa, obrigado for your message. You've raised an essential point. We could have designed a system where AI "generated" content based on the input provided by our customers. However, this approach would have raised significant ethical concerns. In Goodbyememo, individuals compose their messages, and when they pass away, we deliver these messages exactly as they have written them. Does that address your question?"

I'm aware that there are various reasons why different people might use this service. In your opinion, what do you think would be their primary concern

An expected product to come across haha. Well done for the quick building and posting on PH! Tbh, I like the idea that such a tool would make you think about leaving a last message as opposed to not doing anything. But, if I were to think about leaving a message, I'd rather meet the person or call or do a video call (assuming you could do it before becoming incapable). Curious to see how far you will take your product

@julienergan Konnichiwa Julien, thanks for your message. What you said about meeting in person makes a lot of sense, but there are situations when you may not always be prepared to say the right things to the right person at the right time. This tool is designed for such scenarios. For instance, imagine a terminally ill person, expats living far from their loved ones, a soldier on the battlefield, or an ill person in a hospital where visitors are not allowed

@vr081 Knonnichiwa (you’re the first one 😉) Vincenzo! What you says makes a lot of sense. Definitely an idea and product which has stuck a bit in my head. Would be curious to hear what you have in mind for the next steps.

💡 Bright idea
First off, let me just say that initiating a project like this takes a lot of guts and innovation. I mean, a system that enables people to convey their thoughts and messages posthumously - that's bold and seriously inventive. A queries though, with the "Self Check" feature, what would happen in case of false alarms or accidental triggers? One suggestion I do have is perhaps including an option to delay the delivery of messages to a certain date or occasion. So, if a user wants their messages to be delivered on, say, a loved one's next birthday or a specific commemoration date, they could customise it accordingly. It might add another layer of meaning to the messages sent. Good luck! I really like this idea!

@dino123 Hey Shane, thank you very much for your contribution. You've raised an important point. Case 1: If you know that you won't be able to reply to your emails for a while, you can choose to temporarily disable the self-check, making sure not to 'pass away' in the meantime. Case 2: If you won't be able to use your email for a while, we are actively working on alternative methods for you to confirm that you are still alive, such as WhatsApp, Telegram, Facebook or other options. But we must ensure that are channels that we can control. Case 3: If you forget to reply to our message, don't worry. Before considering you as having passed away, we will send an additional message to ask if you are still alive. Only if you fail to respond twice will we consider you as 'gone.' Yes, we are also working on the possibility of scheduling messages for a specific date. Once again, thank you for taking the time to help us improve our system for our users.
