Gone - An ephemeral to-do list

Gone is an ephemeral to-do list. All tasks will disappear within 24 hours of adding them. Complete your tasks each day before they go away.

@thejeremycarson can you elaborate what you mean by random social media / dating app?

@rrhoover Month ago I was really impressed by the idea of Gone - and we decide to make an app for this - https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/...

What's the intended consequence of the tasks expiring? I fail to see how it would make the user more compelled to add tasks as it provides less flexibility for the task list (can't have tasks that have a time horizon over a day) and to some extent removes the gratification of 'completing a task' since it may just have expired. Unless the 'timer' is showed to people in a ubiquitous fashion prompting them to act on the tasks, which it inherently cannot being a web app, I think I fail to see the advantage. I don't mean to sound overly critical, I'm just curious about the thoughts behind this.

@ubbedall Thanks for the feedback! I think the idea is to sit down in the morning, add a bunch of stuff that you'd like to get done for the day, and check them off one-by-one. I think it creates a sense of urgency and incentive to check stuff off before it disappears to be forgotten about.

@ubbedall @jsngr brilliant app @jsngr was looking for something like this, congrats on the launch

The whole point of a list of things to do is that they stay that way.

Pros:

Not tried it yet. I don't need more stress creators like this.

Cons:

I don't need a tool whose memory is worse than mine.

🤔
What if I told you, when you built a TO-DO App a puppy dies?
Zane Gocha
@_selcukahmet All puppies go to heaven tho right? --- Heck, I'm totally building one. I have had a to-do list on my to-do list for ages.
Chris Kalani
I built this 6 years ago: http://chriskalani.com/post/2617...
Zane Gocha
@chriskalani What happened? Maybe you can provide some insight for the Maker. Are you still pursuing the app?
Yuriy Shikhanovich
Love this idea. Any plans for mobile apps?
Jordan Singer
@uxiomatic If you have iOS, simply add to the homescreen from Safari and it will behave like an app!
Mayank Kaushik
@jsngr Really it is awesome, would love to have it on android. Can I implement it on android ??
Greg Garnhart
@jsngr @mapank You can! It's simply a web app (adding it to homescreen in iOS just bookmarks the page in app-icon form). I believe Chrome for android has an add to homescreen feature.

The 24 hr clock is really cool. No more backlogging tasks. Works well for me everyday! @jnsgr 🙌

Pros:

Clean, simple & beautiful.

Cons:

None

Disappearing tasks is an old concept invented for the digital age. No more ten level nested tasks and task dependencies, just a list for today. YOLO (you only list once) is new critical path :)

Pros:

Fun to do app that creates an incentive to complete.

Cons:

If only it had the feeling of physically scratching off an item on a list

Hey there! I built Gone out of the attempt to create more incentive to finish day-to-day tasks. Typically, I find myself creating a reminder in Reminders.app or Notes.app, but when a task can sit there past its deadline, there was a want for something more. Gone was built from start to finish this past weekend, and I kept it dead simple. Just add tasks, and they'll expire 24 hours after adding them. There's a little progress bar for each task showing how much time has elapsed, and even night mode by toggling the moon icon in the top right :) Let me know your thoughts! This was meant to be a fun side project that I hope will help people keep track of and finish their daily tasks.

Really impressive idea. Thanks!

Ah, this would be the literal end of me - I have dozens of reminders set up for various things. Is there any way to save "deleted" reminders somewhere?
Jordan Singer
@nickabouzeid i've been thinking on it!

This would be great as a new tab plugin for Chrome (or any other browser I guess).

Liked the minimalistic design.

Any chance you'll develop a chrome extension? I'd love to see this as my new tab page. Great work!

I registered, it's simple and clean, that's great.

Pros:

Simple. Clean. Fantastic.

Cons:

Terms & privacy conditions..? Help?

Beautiful execution of a simple but awesome idea. 💯

O sh*t! I was working on something similar but for work deadlines.
