Hey Product Hunt 👋
I just wanted to share a bit more about our story!
Freetrade was born from a frustration our team had here in the UK. We were all looking for a modern, simple mobile product for long-term investors that does not charge the typical £5-12 per transaction fees of traditional providers.
In the process, we became a financial institution, directly authorised by the Financial Conduct Authority in the UK. We're also a member of the London Stock Exchange.
🎯 Our goal
Investing is one of the best ways to secure your financial future. Our goal is to make investing accessible for everyone. We're live in the UK, soon in Europe, and eventually, everywhere.
💸 Zero-fee investing
We charge no fees for our Basic Account, and you can choose from hundreds of UK and US stocks and ETFs. We'll only charge for the extras such as Instant Orders and tax-efficient accounts. Our thinking is that our revenue model has to align with our customers. We only succeed when our customers succeed.
👩💻 Customer service from real humans
We believe in treating our customers fairly. Our customer service team will answer any questions you have, via chat directly in our app.
👯 Community
At the heart of Freetrade is our amazing community, sharing their feedback and ideas with us every day: https://community.freetrade.io/ We build the product with them, for them.
For now, we're only live in the UK. If you live outside the UK, please leave your email on the website, and we'll keep you posted on our expansion.
🙏 We'd appreciate your feedback, and we’re here to answer questions all day!
@v18n, Loving Freetrade. It's also ranking very well within the Marketplace feature of our personal finance app so you can tell it's well loved by customers 🚀
Congrats on the PH launch guys! About time 😉
Been using it since the early Beta launch and loving it so far! UX is fantastic - it takes two taps and you have your shares (shout out to James 👏🏻)
Looking forward to fractional shares!
Congrats on the launch @v18n! Been a big fan of freetrade for quite some time now, think it all started when I stumbled on the design and fell in love!
@aaronoleary Thanks, Aaron! Credit goes to @jamesstorer and his dazzling design team! ✨
(I really wanted to do an alliteration here)
(EDIT: dazzling design department)
I’ve been using Fairtrade for a month or so and it’s a revelation in terms of democratising investments. It’s super easy to get started, and I’m already up 10% thanks to Apple & Snapchat.
One thing that needs improvements is the charts - it’d be good to see even something like Coinbase where you can thumb over the chart and it shows the price in daily intervals, rather than % increase over fixed day, week and months.
In addition to being a great product, Freetrade is backed by a great team with a sustainable approach to development. They may not be rushing out features like other companies, but everything they do add feels polished and well thought out.
Pros:
Stock trading done right. Seriously. No fees, great UX.
Thanks Manuel - now we've launched on Android we can focus our efforts on features like reporting and discovery. Check out our open roadmap for what's coming in the next few months https://blog.freetrade.io/our-op...
Easily my favourite app right now, this team are unstoppable 🚀 Everyone would be wise to keep an eye out for the next crowdfund...
Looking forward to fractional shares and some ETFs with crypto exposure.
Free trade is an absolutely fantastic product compared to the legacy stock trading websites/apps, but I am sure it can be improved a lot in many areas.
Pros:
No fees, No brainer 💸 Stocks and Shares ISA Account 🚀 Amazing Customer Service ⭐ Clean UI 🌼
Cons:
Feature request (Not a cons):
LISA, SIPP, More Index Funds and ETF's, Watch List, IPO's, Stock Screener, Web app, News Feed, New stocks
I've been using Freetrade for a few months and it's a really fantastic product. Before Freetrade existed in the UK the only option when buying shares was to use a really expensive and complicated legacy broker. They charged multiple fees which made buying small amounts of stock cost prohibitive.
Freetrade have completely turned this on it's head - with a beautifully simple app which makes buying stocks as easy as downloading an app from the App Store. Having no fees means if you want to buy a stock for $5 it now makes financial sense to do so as you aren't stung for huge fees!
@footer the app's only available in the UK app stores at the moment. We're planning to make some changes to the app so that we can add it to other stores too. But even when we do, at the moment Freetrade can only be used by UK residents. I hope that helps :)
We fully agree, Richard! We have an all-star team (Discovery & Insights) working on the problems of helping users exploring stocks and ETFs and showing your investment performance in new, better ways.
Huge fan of the simplicity of this app - it is a pleasure to use, great experience.
Things I’d love to see in future releases:
- debit card transactions (rather than having to send money with sort code etc)
- % net growth of whole portfolio (much like how you can see it for individual stocks)
Nice not to be paying fees, charts need work. You can look at charts anywhere though and the interface is generally quite good. I generally buy shares on IG but will probably use this if they are available on there moving forward. Pretty responsive team too.

Cons:Many small features missing like the ability to "favourite" stocks or more advanced reporting but I'm sure these things will come soon.
