We decided to build Filter Off to streamline the dating process making an efficient and authentic dating experience. *OUR FEATURES* With our latest version, you can join virtual public and private events. @msimonson19 thanks for your question. Filter Off is a video first dating app. Bumble recently introduced video post-match and Tinder plans to later this year. However, post match video is VERY different than video first. Video first is a new paradigm of online dating. You don’t artificially judge people on their profile picture, but rather the interaction and the vibe you get while video chatting. We truly believe that video-first offers the best way to online date. Many of our users have shared that they do their makeup beforehand and bring a glass of wine on their “date”. With traditional swipe apps it’s become more of a habitual routine. With Filter Off it’s an experience.

Apart from what Zach mentioned about moving away from the superficiality of the swipe apps (which is paramount), our themed Events is a great way for our users to really connect with others with shared interests. One of the new events that we are going to launch is the Book Lovers speed dating series. Attending the event means you get back to back dates with fellow book lovers that meet your dating criteria. How amazing is that? A few other themed events we've done in the past are Runner Lovers, city based events, community/ethnicity based events etc. Our Events product is something that's very novel to Filter Off.

@marion_ca yes, with such unfortunate events it is great timing. We actually started working on Filter Off pre-Covid since we believe video-first dating is the most authentic and efficient way to date! With that being said, the pandemic definitely sped up the cultural acceptance of video by 3-5 years.

@marion_ca yesss. And unfortunately, staying home is something that we'll have to do for the foreseeable future 😪 The Events product that we offer is a great way to meet several people back to back in one night - and with each date being just 90 seconds, it's not a huge time sink.

Great idea!!! Does this mean I cant use my high school pic any more? ;-) was thinking of doing something like this with the domain I bought, calamity.club , but more towards humor and entertainment. I did speed dating many years ago and this is like at home speed dating, grab a margarita and put your feet up.

Interesting idea! My main concern: - How will you differentiate if/when Tinder and co. decide to copy this feature? I realize they may not make this a default, but it's possible they can make this an option for users to select. These type of "marketplaces" rely heavily on network effects and tends to lead to a winner-takes-all kind of situation.

@henryyang89 This is a great question! I’d like to start off by saying that it’s not something we are actively worried about because Tinder has a strong brand identity that is centered around swiping. We don’t think they would radically change their business at the risk of screwing up a hugely profitable product. Having said that, even if they do, live video dating is a totally different product from the tech stack all the way to experience. People are flakey and picky, and solving the problem of live video, reducing no-shows, while delivering on high-quality dates is an incredibly tough problem that takes months of user-experience research to get right. We don’t want to give away our secret sauce, but we’ve developed workflows that result in a high rate of attendance while still using a preference-based matching algorithm.

@cecile_rofidal We actually have rolled out globally! We definitely have the largest concentration of users in the US and UK at the moment, but India and some European countries have started to grow substantially.

Great app. I can see that Filter Off is a cool and fun platform for people to make new friends and expand their social circle. With social distancing, people have become much more comfortable video dating. We believe that way of dating is the new norm and will be here to stay.
