by

Introducing Drama.
Design, prototype and animate in a single Mac app.

• Draw scenes.
• Connect the scenes with transitions.
• Drama will automatically create morphing animations between your scenes, based on layer names.

I gotta ask. Why the name?
Miso Antonic
@syswarren We wanted something that is memorable, easy to spell, short, different and related to motion and movement. I understand the name is a bit controversial, but that is one of the reasons why we picked it.
Tudor Baidoc
@syswarren Exactly my thought, why this name? It really doesn't fit to this kind of app, anyways, good luck with the project.

Hello Product Hunt! We're really happy to announce Drama — all-in-one design, prototyping and animation tool. We've been working on Drama for several years and we're delighted to finally show it to you. Please feel free to ask any questions - we'll do our best to answer them!

@miso_antonic This is an impressive and well designed piece of software. Congrats to the whole team!
Miso Antonic
@pugson Thanks!

How does this compare to Principle?
Juan Agrón
@ridderingand_ More control. For example, Drama allows tweaks to the line-spacing and line-height of text. It seems super simple but there are a lot of little details like these that made it worth it for me.

Hi, we’ve been working on this app for a long time and we are very happy you can finally try it. Which aspect of Drama will you use most often?
Paul Martens
I’m a big fan of Paintcode, so I was thrilled to see this product announcement in my inbox. Although it’s a saturated market, knowing what these guys can do, I’m really looking forward to future releases.
Peter Böttges
@miso_antonic So this is only for creating mock-ups and prototyping? No way to export what was built (even so just partially) to avoid rebuilding everything in code? I'm asking because of your experience with PaintCode.
Miso Antonic
@boettges Drama 1.0 does not include code generation. We're considering it for future releases. What kind of code output would be most useful to you?
Peter Böttges
@miso_antonic I've always found CSS-animations in conjunction with JavaScript triggers tedious to create by hand. The same goes for non-standard iOS animations. But I think the export will be a difficult task to do right, as there is no fixed canvas, as in your app for both the web and flexible mobile layouts.
Rex Feng
@miso_antonic @boettges This product looks interesting, but it doesn't seem useful without a way to export / generate code (à la PaintCode).

no love for Windows?

Congrats on the launch! What would you say sets Drama apart from Invision Studio, another tool that offers design, prototyping, and animation all in one app?
Miso Antonic
@brettwill1025 From the top of my head: in Drama, you can create timeline-based animations. You can customize your transitions on the level of individual attributes of individual shapes. You can rotate and place your layers in 3D space. There is also very powerful built-in version control system. Additionally, Drama is a native Mac app.
Lee Bridges
@brettwill1025 @miso_antonic Just a heads up, Invision Studio allows customizing transitions on the level of individual attributes of individual shapes on a timeline. One thing you didn't mention that is a pretty big differentiator is your Magic Drag feature. It looks badass if it works as well as it does in your demo video, and I've not seen it in any other design/prototype product.
Amos Gyamfi
@brettwill1025 Try creating an animated progress to count from 0% - 100%. In InVision Studio you will need 101 artboards. In Drama, only 2 scenes/artboards, very smart.
Andrei Negrau
Tho I'm not a designer, the product looks interesting. It would have been helpful to add a demo animation of what Drama can do. Keep it up.

@andrei_negrau Examples of animations are here https://www.drama.app/examples

I am not a UX designer, but i see this can be used by UX teams using figma to communicate to their clients on the visuals that work dynamically.
Farhan
Any plans for a Windows release?
Vadym Syliava
Nice application. Are you going to add integrations with Figma or Sketch?
Tsahao Yu
Live it! Will you support importing artboards from Sketch or Figma?
Francoo
hey there, congrats ! minimum macOS V ?
Tricer∴tops
@francoolaami Drama works on macOS 10.13 and later. Mirror on iOS 11 and later.
Zaryab Waseem
Hi @miso_antonic , Are you planning to release it for windows?
Mykola Harmash
Hi, looks interesting. Is it a native macOS app or it's build with Electron?
aolko
No windows version, 0/5

I don't know
Ilya Shchyryi
So it's not the best versions of Sketch and Principle?
