I expect to see more audio-driven intimacy and sex related products emerge over the next few years. I invested in one that's pre-launch. Congrats on the funding and traction to date, @gina_gutierrez. 👏🏼

Why is this for women?
Polly Rodriguez
@danirogerc bc the majority of all erotic content (read: tube sites like pornhub) are almost entirely from the male perspective. i think it's smart -- better to start out getting a smaller group of people to love you, then expand to the male market IF there is demand for it (i.e., 70% of pornhub viewers today are men)
Anna Filou
@danirogerc @polly_claire haven't tried this but I assume that the stories can be read and enjoyed by anyone 🤷🏻‍♂️ Just because they are written with women in mind, doesn't mean nobody else can enjoy them 😛

@danirogerc @polly_claire @anna_0x Hi Anna! Definitely. Dipsea was designed with women in mind, but is a place for anyone interested. Our content is guided by psychological factors (i.e. context setting, narrative inspiration) that research points to being particularly important for female arousal, but by no means do we think those effects are only felt by women :)
Anna Filou
@danirogerc @polly_claire @gina__gutierrez Agreed. And it’s not like the stories I read that are written from a male point of view and meant to be read my males are not —UMM— interesting 😅 So the same must be true the other way around.

I've been a fan of @gina_gutierrez for a while now. I absolutely love their design approach and the focus on audio for eroticism. Studies have shown that when you use your imagination during masturbation (or otherwise), it results in a heightened climax bc of the increased brain activity (this is relative to just watching porn). Plus, for women, it's so nice to have erotic content from our perspective vs. what is so often the male view of sexuality in porn. GO TEAM DIPSEA!!!!!

@gina_gutierrez @polly_claire Fan of you for forever, Polly!!! Thanks for paving the way through the deep snow, those tracks are truly helping us to fly. How's that for a mixed metaphor?

Did you ever run across the Sonic Erotica podcasts? A mix of stories, and, um, other stuff. But no way to monetize back then.

Why the app isn't available for download in Russia? :(
Helena Ronis
I downloaded the app and listened to a few stories. Very impressive, beautiful design and the production value is amazing! Kudos! As a product person I'm curious, who does the production? How long does it usually take per story?
Gina Gutierrez
@helenaronis We do the production, and it varies based on the story

I actually just tried to download this but instead was shown an error message saying that the app is not available in my country. Is this US only? Seriously, why @gina__gutierrez ? At least mention it somewhere on the page or on your website guys! It’s kind of annoying when people forget that other countries exist.
Gina Gutierrez
@anna_0x Hi Anna, sorry to disappoint. There are diverse legal implications to offering content of this kind in each country. We haven't invested in working through those legalities globally, but do offer our iOS app in the US, UK, Australia, New Zealand, and Canada for the time being (our content is in English).
Anna Filou
@gina__gutierrez I understand that the content is in English, since the website and app description are also in English. But you do realize that almost everyone who lives in a developed country and owns a smartphone understands English, right? If a user reads the description and can understand what the app is about, then they'd be able to understand the content as well. I don't know anything about the legal implications, but if it's legal in the "US, UK, Australia, New Zealand, and Canada" then I highly doubt it's illegal in other Western countries :) In any case, what the harm in mentioning it *somewhere*, anywhere :/ There's nothing on product hunt or on your website that suggests that the app is not available in all countries. It would only take a one line note in the footer. But it seems that people living in America tend to forget that not every single person on Earth does, thus it doesn't occur to them to mention it. Sorry for the slightly harsh words, but it see you everywhere and it really gets on my nerves.
Gina Gutierrez
@anna_0x To reframe for a minute, it's not that we *don't* want to offer our content to absolutely everyone. Putting aside good intentions (which you don't need to presume that we have), that would be a poor business decision. It's not a question of whether or not we are legal in countries, it's a question of what terms and conditions we share to be compliant, and it's an expensive investment to explore that thoroughly in each new country and territory. Any company does the best it can to decide what investments are appropriate when -- we're just trying our best. At this point we're generating enough attention that I agree we're ready to state which countries we're currently accessible to. My best, Gina

love love love this product so much!

Pros:

app is fun and easy to use, huge variety of stories, amazing company and mission

Cons:

App crashes every now and then, nothing out of the ordinary for such a small team.
