So to sum this up: 1. Website design completely ripped from buymeacoffee.com. 2. Logo was stolen (not your fault, but still). 3. Tweets are fake. 4. The service itself is at the very least against Apple's guidelines and possibly against the rules. Are you basically wrapping the site in a webview and calling it a day? How did this even get on the front page of Product Hunt?
Lucas Maldonado
@justinscheetz Hello Justin, we are on very early stages and trying to improve our product based on feedback. The problems you mention have been sorted out. To say “Are you basically wrapping the site in a webview and calling it a day?” is an understatement of the problem we are trying to solve. That is not what we are doing, and if we were doing just that, what is the problem? Companies solve more mundane problems than this one and charge money for it. If businesses see value on solving the problem and paying for it, then yes we entrepreneurs call it a day. We have many happy customers and that assures me we are on the right path. I see comments like yours all day on PH. Just plain negativity without adding any value or constructive criticism. This product got in front of PH because many people find value on solving this problem. If this is a problem you don’t have or don’t feel worth solving, I would like to tell go on to the next product instead of spreading hate. Thank you very much.
Sam Ayres
@justinscheetz @lucasmaldonado Calling you out on stealing other people's work is not spreading hate.
Justin Scheetz
@lucasmaldonado I do apologize if my comments came off as hateful, it certainly wasn't meant to be. Angry and annoyed, sure. Not hateful. Being a designer/developer myself who spends hours pixel pushing and (to my detriment sometimes) perfecting the final product, I found it incredibly offensive that the site design and logo were completely ripped. The end result is that the product you are trying to sell feels rushed and desperate. I mean fake tweets? There's no excuse for that. I'm glad you're working toward fixing those issues now and hopefully for the future, but my gut reaction is that you didn't care enough the first time to do your research. Again, my opinion and visceral reaction, nothing more. No hate here. 😉 I sincerely do hope your product grows and does well beyond this initial launch. Bouncing back from this is something we do right? Just put more time into knowing what assets you're using before it lands on the front page of something like Product Hunt. 😉 Anyway, best of luck!
Lucas Maldonado
@justinscheetz Thank you very much Justin, we do regret the mistakes and hope to continue growing the product. I appreciate your reply. Best of luck to you too!
Justin Scheetz
@lucasmaldonado Now if you can build an app that converts a SaaS web app into a native app in like 5 seconds, that would be awesome. 😄 (I need to spend a good few months learning iOS development). Have a good one!
Zaphir

- Webdesign copied from: buymeacoffee.com

- Logo copied from: Dribbble.com

- Fake tweets on website

Pros:

I don't know

Cons:

Copied Webdesign & Logo

I find your review very deconstructive and in detriment to our product given that you didn't even try to use our product. We are on very early stages and trying to improve our product based on feedback. The cons you mention have been sorted out. Of course you won't find any pros to our product, because you haven't tried or used it.

@lucasmaldonado I am trying to contact anyone linked to this app for days and there’s no answer , the app doesn’t work, I have paid and receive nothing . What is happening.
James Paris
@lucasmaldonado You are frauding people and stealing money.
Bob Dwar
@zaphir_ and source code stolen from webviewgold.com (I debugged the APK). Buyers can get into heavy legal trouble.

Apple has been against people making their websites into apps for years. In their App Store Review Guidelines (4.2 Minimum Functionality) it says... “Your app should include features, content, and UI that elevate it beyond a repackaged website. If your app is not particularly useful, unique, or “app-like,” it doesn’t belong on the App Store. If your App doesn't provide some sort of lasting entertainment value, or is just plain creepy, it may not be accepted.” I have had personal experience of Apple rejecting "apps" because it's just a website. How is your service getting around this? I thought there had to be some sort of native functionality also built into the app such as notifications (that's what I have had to do in the past)
Lucas Maldonado
@helloromero Hello Romero, That is right. Apple will not approve apps that not resemble a mobile User Experience. However, if you already have a solid responsive website or a PWA, Apple will approve it. We submitted an app made by ourselves with Convertify and it was approved by Apple. Please check it out here: https://itunes.apple.com/ar/app/...
Romero Mckay
@lucasmaldonado Hi Lucas, it's possible for apps to get through that break rules, we see it all the time. iPhone hack apps, pornographic apps, firearms selling apps etc go on the app store all the time. If an app like this picks up some steam and begins to get popular apple will just remove it after the fact. To stay within their guidelines there has to be something native.
Freddy González
@helloromero @lucasmaldonado I can't try your app, I'm on Android. But even you web app is not optimized, I don't know what to expect from the "official" app...
Lucas Maldonado
@helloromero @fredogonzalezr I sent the iOS app because they were talking about the App Store. You can find the demo Android app on: https://play.google.com/store/ap... I don't really know what you call the web app or "official app", or what you mean by not optimized. Our website, and demo apps work perfect. Perhaps you can contact us in spanish, we are from Argentina.
Freddy González
@helloromero @lucasmaldonado is your app based on instaperfil's website? I meant instaperfil wasn't loading the search results properly in my device, with every search it reloaded the page couple of times. I already tried the app, it looks better than the website, but isn't loading any search result, just doesn't work. 😕 Hola, gracias por responder, al ser una comunidad en inglés intento mantenerlo en los comentarios. 😄
Anders Hede Jensen
Hi @francomaldonado I'm not sure if you guys are aware, but your logo is stolen. It's a concept logo for a project of mine which I was considering using for another project. Take a look: https://dribbble.com/shots/37701...
Franco Maldonado
Hi @andrshede, We have just spoken with Vadim Carazan, the designer of the logo. Apparently, they sold us a stolen fake version of the logo. We are deeply sorry about this. We have just changed the logo and sorted things out with Vadim. He understood and appreciated our fast solution.
Anders Hede Jensen
No worries @francomaldonado! I'm sorry you guys were sold a stolen concept. That really sucks! 😕 I really appreciate that you were able to resolve it this quickly.
Ziggy Crane
@francomaldonado @andrshede Now you only need to change the design for the page, which is also stolen. :D
Florin Matincă
"Convertify is a tool to convert any website into a native app using just an url." What are you converting, actually ? If you just load the website into a web view, what is the returned value of that 15$ - it cost you nothing to follow a simple tutorial that makes exactly that ?
Franco Maldonado
Hi @florinmatinca1, I appreciate your concern. We developed Convertify because it was a problem we actually had. We did search for tutorials but there weren't many, and honestly there were just useless. Our code is far more complex than just loading a website in a webview. You can do the task of finding tutorials and creating your own app, but it will probably take you days and many hours of hard work and learning. Having said that, I think Convertify is a no-brainer for $15.
Florin Matincă
@francomaldonado I don't want to be disrespectful in any way, but maybe you could detail what your code is doing so complex? Because according to your website and your previous posts here it's not clear if it really does more than loading a webpage. PS: It's actually quite easy to find a tutorial
A junior iOS developer should be able to make it in 10 minutes or less.
Lucas Maldonado
@francomaldonado @florinmatinca Hello Florin, I understand you want to do everything by yourself. However that's not the case for everyone probably. Besides, not everyone is a junior iOS developer or wants to learn how to develop apps. This product is probably not for you. However many people find value on our services, and in fact it is far cheaper than the alternatives, eg: gonative.io charges min $790. Our code is far more complex in technicalities that a 5 min video can't explain. Our service has code developed for premium features like push notifications and more native features, that we plan to release on the future. I really don't think code discussion is worthy, because this product is for people who can't or don't want to code. So yes, our service does what it says it does. Just like any product on the world, it is really up to the customer to decide if the price is worth it to solve their problems. Many people find the latter to be true. I really hope my answer clarified your doubts.
Florin Matincă
@francomaldonado @lucasmaldonado You're avoiding the truth, but if this is your answer I'm sorry for your customers that will have their apps rejected by Apple.
Lucas Maldonado
@francomaldonado @florinmatinca What truth am I avoiding? Why would our customers get their apps rejected? We submitted an app to the App Store using Convertify and it was approved without problems. I think you are overly negative about our product and I don't know why.
Tal
“Tens of thousands of customers,” why wait that long to launch on PH..? Doubtful
Franco Maldonado
Hi @tal_botnar, We have been doing Google Ads for a couple of months now beta testing our service, and that allowed us to reach thousands of customers. We wanted to make sure our service was solid before posting on PH, Anyways, thank you for caring and sharing your doubts.
Tal
@francomaldonado There's a difference between REACHING customers and CONVERTING customers.. also, all the tweets displayed on your website are fake.. a quick 2 minute search easily proves this. You made yourself.. the maker.. a fake tweet talking about your own product. I'm not trying to speak badly about your product, I definitely see the value, but credibility in these service products is huge, and displaying fake information that can easily be disproved doesn't help.
Danny
The tweets on the site are fake and the logo seems to be stolen.
Freddy González
@deleted-1468904 there are only 2 tweets on Twitter mentioning convertifyapp. None of them are customer reviews.

REVIEW UPDATE:

Rejected by the App Store

”Guideline 4.2 - Design - Minimum Functionality

Your app provides a limited user experience as it is not sufficiently different from a mobile browsing experience. As such, the experience it provides is similar to the general experience of using Safari. Including iOS features such as push notifications, Core Location, and sharing do not provide a robust enough experience to be appropriate for the App Store.”

So ..... kind of defeats the point of convertify doesn’t it ?

REVIEW UPDATE:

So I heard back from the team at Convertify, and they did offer some help.

Loading the app into Xcode was straight forward, and following the video to.

If it's your first time doing this you may come across some issues, i did.

Various errors stopping the archive from completing, which I ended up finding the answers to on google. I had to change a few settings in Xcode to get the archive to complete. ( I had an "Apple Mach-0 Linker" error)

After this, only one more issue: IDFA.

App store connects asks if you are using the advertising framework, and provides a tick box, yes or no.

So I asked convertify.

After a while , convertify answered my question about the IDFA usage, and said the app does not use it.

So I clicked no and apple replied " Your app does use IDFA so you must select this in the tick box", and the upload failed.

So I clicked yes to IDFA and the app went through, it's now being reviewed by Apple.

Fingers crossed.

This has potential convertify, it really does, but it needs to be smoother with more support for errors along the way, and maybe some pointers towards changing the launch screen and app icons etc.

Your product is great for people who don't know much about Xcode or swift, so you need to support the product for these people, like me.

Anyone who does know Xcode and swift, will just build this themselves.

OLD REVIEW .............................

Made a payment to Convertify on thursday afternoon, it's now monday afternoon.

No confirmation, no email, I've attempted contact via email and on twitter.. no response.

Poor show guys, please get in contact so we can discuss, or issue a refund.

Cheers

Pros:

Seems like a nice idea.

Cons:

Rejected by the app store

Pravin Vekaria
BEWARE! I wish i had checked the reviews for this website before trusting them to provide me with a service. You will get amazing response and promises of the World before you make payment. Once payment is made, good luck! I have opened a case with PayPal so i will get my money back; any decent company would have refunded the money when they know they have messed up and cannot provide what was promised; these guys are scammers! Lucas bullshits alot on chat, never delivers!
Abhi
@pravin_vekaria do they really never answer ? Then my money is wasted as the Android and iOS apps delivered on 21.09.2020 are not functioning properly. I am mailing continuously but no response
Pravin Vekaria
@abhi3 belive me, just do a paypal claim if you paid via paypal, dont waste time trying to resolve it as thats what they will do, they will keep delaying you so that you miss the paypal claim window. I was lucky as i acted and logged the claim with paypal and waited to see if these guys will finally solve the issue and they didnt so i got my money back!
Abhi
@pravin_vekaria Hi Pravin..actually the issue was with Google API functionality. Lucas was away so he couldn't be contacted. He responded immediately once he was active. My previous website I got converted from Fiverr and the results were not satisfactory. The App I received from Convertify is fully functional like Geolocation, Camera, and others. It's surprising as most of the people on Fiverr denied the feasibility of these functions.
Lucas Maldonado
Hey there Product Hunt, Thanks @benln for the hunt Convertify is a tool to convert any website into a native app using just an url. 📘 The pitch As web developers, we always thought it was impossible to create a native Android or iOS app. Mobile development is so much different than web development. We realized that using the last web technologies (Angular, React, Vue) you can create a responsive web app that looks and functions just as a native app. That is why we created Convertify, to take advantage of web development and easily launch a native app. With just $15 you can transform your responsive website into a mobile app. 🇦🇷 Maker Bio My name is Lucas, I am an entrepreneur and developer from Argentina. My brother @francomaldonado and I developed Convertify. Looking forward to hear your thoughts and feedback about our new project and hope we can convert many of your projects.
Markus Schwendeler
Very bad service! I ordered an iOS and Android app. Have 2 apps get, but which does not really work. My mails will not be answered. Total rip off!
Bob Dwar
@markus_schwendeler I would not use it. The source code is stolen from webviewgold.com (I debugged the APK). Buyers can get into heavy legal trouble. I will ask for a refund but no mail answers either :(
Aaron O'Leary
Do you think PWAs are overtaking the need for standalone apps?
Lucas Maldonado
@aaronoleary I don't think we are there quite yet, or if we ever will, because Apple and Google have huge interests to keep the app stores, that is where their revenues are. If you look, Apple really made only minor implementations of PWAs on iOS. However, PWAs is why we created Convertify. If you already have a strong PWA, it is a great candidate to convert it to a native app using Convertify. Your responsive website will look and work just like a native app.
Ivan Homola
Why do you even create a project like this? What is the benefit of having a mobile app generated from the web? And please don't say it's like a native app...because it makes me crazy as an owner of mobile dev studio 😬
Lucas Maldonado
@ichangetheway Hello Ivan thank you for your feedback, let me tell you what we think. Of course it is not like a native app, I agree with you. We provide a solution to businesses with less budget. If you already have a webapp you can convert it to a native app with our service. The generated app will not be as strong as a native app developed from scratch, but given that now there are many solutions to create SPA (eg: React, Angular, Vue). You can really make a competitive app converting it. It won't be the ideal scenario of course. But i think it is a great alternative until you can afford making a full fledge native app.
Ivan Homola
@lucasmaldonado App Store and Google Play are already over-floated with apps without any purpose. Anyway, I can see some use cases when your service might be useful for somebody. The last point, I would suggest you charge a monthly fee...it seems very cheap to me it looks like a scam, pay first then we sent you something...
Lucas Maldonado
@ichangetheway I agree. Thank you very much for the recommendation. We really wanted it to be a business where we could charge a monthly fee. However I didn't know how can we add value monthly, since a customer can request the conversion and then stop paying us and the app will continue working. Yes, looking back I think the pricing is rather cheap. Thank you very much for your constructive feedback.

Ripped off from buymeacoffee.com

Font theft, design theft and infringement of many apple policies

Pros:

Nothing to be exact

Cons:

Website is rip of from buymeacoffee.com

James Paris

THIS IS A FRAUD

Pros:

THIS IS A FRAUD

Cons:

THIS IS A FRAUD

Said Madi
@james_paris This is NOT a fraud , I used them and I have the source code and was able to publish my app on both ios and android ! not sure what was your experience but mine was great
Vivek Sancheti
Does this just loads the website in web view?
Lucas Maldonado
@evivz It loads the website on a WebView but there are a lot more of optimizations and complexities on the code to sort the problems we faced and to make the app ready for the stores.
Nitesh Manav
@benln @francomaldonado @lucasmaldonado looking nice. Few things. 1. Does it support WordPress Multisite? Can we have a single app with primary domain and multiple subdomains? 2. Does it support Custom Post types created using Pods, Toolset or ACF plugin on Wordpress? 3. How is it better than PWA ? I don't want a PWA to be called as APP just because now it opens by clicking a logo on my mobile. It must have some native app feature. How do you see it? 4. Any plan to integrate with OneSignal which provides free push notification for Apps? 5. Are you planning for some extra features for the native app? Thank you.
Lucas Maldonado
@niteshmanav 1. We can only use 1 URL, so I don't think it will support WordPress Multisite. You can however structure one main website and link another domains and it will work. 2. Convertify wraps your URL on an App. So it really doesn't matter if you are using Wordpress or other platform. Yes, it will work. 3. PWAs are the best candidates to use Convertify. Since PWAs are responsive and have a great mobile UX, your app will look just like a native app. The benefit of native apps over PWAs is that you get access to the native distribution methods (App Store and Play Store) 4. We have definitely considered it and we may launch it as a premium feature if there are enough customers who want it. 5. We are open to feedback and suggestions and we can consider extra features like Push Notifications to further develop.
Himanshu Dhiraj Mishra (Himstar)

I think you are just giving ripping services, web UI to app. Nothing getting converted by the portal, right?

Is anything automated or you are converting manually after the payment?

It shouldn't be listed on Product Hunt.

Pros:

Nothing

Cons:

Design copied from buymeacoffee.com (even the css names, seems cloned)

Serkan Kagan Celik (naxer)
Hi Franco & Lucas, @francomaldonado @lucasmaldonado Good luck with your Convertify journey! Do you plan to make something like provide push notifications ?
Lucas Maldonado
@francomaldonado @naxer Thank you very much Serkan! I appreciate your feedback. We may add more features like push notifications on the future, I will contact you if we add them!
