Hello, everyone! πŸ‘‹ I'm one of the makers of Coderoulette and I'm really happy to launch Coderoulette on Product Hunt today. I will be available to answer any question you might have and I would love to hear what you think about the product. Coderoulette is not just a game, it's also a personal adventure to help us understand better how people collaborate and learn while working with others. We think the biggest challenges humanity is facing will be solved by groups of people collaborating, and we want to help everyone get better at working with their peers. On top of that, our education experience was somehow lonely, boring and passive, and we believe there should be a much more engaging, human and fun way to learn new things. This is how Coderoulette was born! Here is an article I posted explaining more about our motivation and goals: https://medium.com/@arielcamus/c... I hope you enjoy it! 😊

A Github login would be a great addition! If you could tweet your pitch, what would it be?
Ariel Camus
@tsunaze we initially had Github login and we removed it to simplify the UX, but it's something we might add back if many people find it useful. Here is the pitch: "Learning new things shouldn't be a boring, passive and lonely experience. We built Coderoulette to help developers explore and learn new languages while having fun and creating human connections with other developers from around the world".

@tsunaze Github login done :)

@levibostian let's have a session. I'm PHP dev tho :D
Miriam Muros
@levibostian It's a roulette! It can be in any language :D
Ariel Camus
@levibostian I know PHP is not the most exciting option, but that's the point of the "game" -- you don't know which language you will have to use, but if you don't know it the other person will and you will learn something new.

Coderoulette is a pair programming game for developers. It matches developers from all around the world in real time and gives them coding challenges they have to solve using video conference and a collaborative IDE. It's like a Chatroulette for developers. But here is the catch... The two developers in each team don’t know which programming language they will have to use. They just know that at least one of them already knows that language, so most likely one of them will have to learn from each other. Coderoulette is not just a game, it's also an experiment on collaborative learning.

This. Sounds. Interesting... I can't wait for an accidental unicorn to emerge here... or for everyone to discover this is how DARPA keeps the firewall up. @arielcamus @kwdinc

I love the premise of this - I do not see why we need to use the webcam though, microphone makes sense but seeing the other person does not seem NEEDED. - Have a way to draw out ideas would be cool - I tried this a couple times and both times I never heard a peep from my partner, and they simply left. Was very strange.

@johnson3650 Thanks a lot for the feedback. We have noticed there is a pattern of people being just curious and joining sessions just to see how everything works, without activating their camera. Unfortunately, because of the way we built it, the communication stream (including video and chat) only works if you also enable the camera, so unless you enable your camera you don't see the other person either. Because it will take us a while to change that, we have temporarily added a new step where we ask you to enable your camera before being matched with someone else. We're looking at the metrics right now to see if it's improving the user experience.

This is the COOLEST thing I've seen for ages!

Nice idea ! Is it possible to add Swift ? (:
Miriam Muros
@kevinloustau Yes, of course :) but remember that is a experience of learning! You would't know what language with you playing with!
Roman Milovanov
Awesome idea guys!
