I'm excited to introduce Clipboard History to you all! It's a new, improved, and open-source version of a popular chrome extension that's being removed from the chrome web store. If you've ever been frustrated by losing incomplete form data because of unexpected site behavior then Clipboard History is for you! When enabled, everything you copy to your clipboard is safely backed up, ensuring you never lose important content in your clipboard again. It's also pretty useful for things like refactoring code or quickly accessing frequently used commands. I actually used to use the aforementioned popular chrome extension for all the reasons above and more. It was so convenient that I even had to stop myself from using it as a secrets manager a couple times. That’s primarily what inspired me to create this alternative — since there was no way for me to easily review the source code and manually install the extension, I wanted to make a personal one I could trust with sensitive data. I then realized that others might also find this valuable, so I decided to not only make a personal version but a well-thought-out upgrade to the existing extension in every way: ease of use, performance, reliability, privacy, and security. Feedback, feature requests, and suggestions are very much appreciated. It currently has just the core features from the existing extension and QOL things like advanced configurations are planned. Everything else will only be added based on interest/demand (to minimize feature bloat and the additional permissions it’ll require as a result) so your opinion means a lot! Thank you so much for checking Clipboard History out, please don't hesitate to reach out about any questions or ideas you might have. Cheers!

@andyluyoung Looks decent, just curious on how is it different from existing power toys. I have all clipboard history, does it keep it stored after we turn off the system?

@andyluyoung Clipboard History is an excellent tool that ensures you never lose important clipboard content again! I’m curious—will you consider adding a feature that categorizes clipboard items for easier retrieval, especially for users who frequently copy various types of content?
Andy Young
@prad_vv Yes entries are persisted even when you turn off your machine. Compared to the existing chrome extensions this one is the most secure as it is open-source. Another benefit is better performance due to less feature bloat and a more modern chrome extension stack. There are also a bunch of UX improvements because of the updated stack, here are a few: * The infinite scrolling feature is a lot easier to use as all items appear to be rendered -- in the popular alternative scrolling to old items is slow because it loads one page at a time. * Selecting all actually selects everything instead of only whatever is rendered. * Clipboard entries are created and updated live -- if the popup is open and you switch to another window, copy something, then return to Chrome, a new entry is added to the list. In the popular alternative you would have to close the popup and open it again.

The ease of access and security features of it's History Pro are exactly what I’ve been looking for.

@andyluyoung congrats on the launch! I didn't even realize there was one that previously existed and am glad to see yours launch today! I have it now added to both my personal and work chrome profiles and know it will save me hours of frustration :D I can also now change my Zoom settings back to automatically copy the room link (I had to turn it off because it would replace the content I had in my clipboard that I would often forget to paste in its final destination!). Really appreciate the thought and energy you put into building an open-source version and ensuring privacy!
Andy Young
@ph_leeanntrang I didn’t know Zoom did that! It definitely sounds very frustrating, thanks for sharing. I’m happy to hear that this tool will help make your life just ever so slightly easier!

I really appreciate the transparency with the open-source model.
Are there any plans to add more customization options for how clipboard history is displayed,That could be really useful!

Very good! Could you add more shortcuts for hiding and invoking operations? This is important for people writing blogs and long stories! Upvote!

Clipboard History sounds really useful! I like that it's open-source - always good for transparency. Have you considered adding a search function for finding older clips? Could be handy for power users. Also, curious about how it handles sensitive data - any built-in protections against accidentally copying passwords? Nice job on improving an existing tool. I'll give it a try!
Andy Young
@andyroamer An option to disable adding passwords to the history is very interesting. The challenge with that is actually detecting/defining what a password is, because the tool only has access to your raw clipboard content and no other information like where it was copied from. Making it simpler and only ignore key-like content would be more doable though as they usually follow a consistent pattern. I could probably take inspiration from existing tools like GitHub's secrets scanner.
