@johncschuster it depends on what you mean. For example, it is £19 cheaper;) And you can run it on Linux and Windows. But it is young product and for now, I can't guarantee such stability and plugins diversity as Alfred has now. I hope in future there will be way more plugins, but even now you can use it for everyday routine. Like I do:)
@alexandr_subbotin@johncschuster can't search file system on Windows. It only pulls up google results and translation. Didn't see a plugin specific to that. Also could be settings from corporate IT blocking but it seems like this functionality is supposed to work for Windows?
@elie_teyssedou as in the question above about Alfred, it depends. Comparing to Spotlight you can extend it with custom plugins. Out of the box, it has some features, that are not in spotlight, like inline search on maps, google suggestions or translator
@vivek_ramesh I do not think that is possible. You can, however, change the spotlight keyboard shortcut to something different and set Cerebros to CMD+SPACE (default spotlight shortcut)
Some new open-source, cross-platform launchers recently. http://zazuapp.org is another alternative. But it will take them some time to catch up to Alfred and Launchbar (both are really mature and have a fantastic community & lots of extensions), if they ever.
@tafkaf I'd like a discussion here on the development aspects (sinece Devs ultimately need to choose which plugins they'll write for). First of all, cerebro is an Electron app, which some ppl hate due to high RAM usage.
I have tried every new launcher/spotlight replacement that has come out and always end up going back to Alfred2 after a week or so. They are all just so bloated and resource heavy!
Lacona, Zazu, Launchy, etc all absolutely butcher my late 2013 macbook pro. I am not sure where the issues are, but until someone can make something stable that isn't always triggering my CPU fans when i'm idling in Chrome after a restart, I don't see myself switching from Alfred anytime soon.
@alexandr_subbotin Takes a few minutes before it kicks in. And it only displays the contact. Hitting enter doesn't launch the Contacts app to edit the contact. Can it do other types of contacts? (Google, Fullcontact, Facebook)
@chuckkahn@alexandr_subbotin By "Takes a few minutes before it kicks in" you mean installing the contacts plugin (i.e., one time) or really executing the command every time?
@skyflowering@alexandr_subbotin After installing the plugin and typing a contact name right away, nothing happens. After a minute or so, typing a name, contact details come up in the side pane. But hitting return/enter on the contact does not launch the Contacts app.
Great product. The name is great. I like these names, they're nice. Not nasty and fake. Who likes fake product names? Spotlight? I mean, look at spotlight. We have a real problem with Spotlight.
@wilhempujar :D "Cerebro" means brain in Portuguese. Possibly in other Latin-based languages too. ;) The product's tagline is: "Open-source productivity booster with a brain".
Seems like a great app and I like the idea of it being supported on Windows. The only downside I see is that I cannot open applications like I expect. I was hoping it'd have a similar behavior opening apps as if it was on a Mac.
