Cardigan is a simple web app that scans your Twitter history to identify tweets you might want to delete.

Ah, was wondering why it's called Cardigan, then realized, you use a cardigan normally to cover up ;)

@amstb1 I never even thought of that! It's actually due to reasons explained in the FAQ: https://www.gocardigan.com/faq/#... But I like yours too, and will start using that from now on.

overheard in the @Kayako office: "this is super. all i've learnt from facebook "on this day" is that i was a dick"
Benjy Weinberger
@jmedwards @kayako Ha! I would like to have Cardigan work for Facebook posts too, maybe in the future...

The big warning about "download an archive of your tweets before proceeding" was enough to scare the crap out of me and keep me from signing up.
Benjy Weinberger
@arlogilbert Well, I'm confident that it won't delete tweets you didn't intend, but I can't 100% guarantee that, obviously. And in any case, the warning is more so that people don't regret the deletions, because they can't be undone!
Benjy Weinberger
@arlogilbert But sorry to scare the crap out of you! My intention was to make sure people understand that this can (if they wish) nuke their entire timeline, and there's no going back.

Just what I needed!

fyi, i have 37k tweets and this thing seems to cap out at 20k. Is it really trying to load all my tweets in a single browser window? Seems like a bad way to do it.
Benjy Weinberger
@decktonic It should actually cap out at around 3200, which is the maximum the Twitter API allows, and is easily rendered in one browser window. I am working on a way to access your entire tweet backlog, but that will obviously have to involve pagination, as you point out. If you're actually seeing 20k tweets then I don't know how that's happening...

Could someone do this for YouTube!!! I need it
Benjy Weinberger
@michaelabehsera Interesting! Next on my list of sites to support was Facebook, I never thought of YouTube, but that's actually a good idea! Will look into it.

@benjy there are old videos of mine posted from accounts I have no access to that I would love to remove 😟 hit me up if u find a way I'll definitely pay for the service.
Benjy Weinberger
@michaelabehsera Unfortunately I definitely won't be able to do anything with accounts you don't have access to. A service like Cardigan can only act on an account holders behalf, not delete arbitrary things...

Many people have asked, so I'll mention this here directly: Unfortunately the Twitter API has a limit of up to 3200 tweets, and you can't fetch timelines past that point. It does appear that if you delete tweets to "make room" under that limit and then wait for some amount of time (I have yet to figure out how much) then you can see further back. So it may make sense to delete from your first 3200 tweets, then wait a day, then try again for the earlier tweets. And so on. I'm working on a way around this limitation, and will post here when I have one.

There are a number of options in this space, but if you are able to beat the 3200 tweet limit you will be king. The limitation is really aggravating because I assume most of the tweets people would want to delete are well beyond that limit.
Gregg Katz
Great idea. I agree with what others have said. Figure out a way to bypass (or uniquely work with) the 3200 tweet limit and that will be a differentiator. Nice job!

Looks like this is no longer working yes/no?
