Hi PH! 👋 Today we’re launching a new platform: ✨Bountyhub✨ BountyHub is a platform that aims to monetize issue resolution on public GitHub repositories which is a more direct way to finance contributors than donations/sponsoring. 🚨THE PROBLEM🚨 Most github repositories have issues that remain open for a long time which is due to multiple reasons such as the lack of resources or prioritization, Most developers don't have the time to browse random repositories on github to attempt fixing repositories they don't use or issues that doesn't affect them directly. 💡THE SOLUTION💡 The solution is be to put prizes on github issues to incentivize open-source contributors to fix issues even if there not directly affected by the issue. This could also be a way for open source repositories to attract more contributors and for the repository maintainers to earn money contributing to their own repositories. 🎯WHY IT MATTERS🎯 Most if not all software companies rely on open source technologies to produce a better product, and sometimes these open source technologies might have bugs or missing featurs that can block the company's productivity. 🙏FEEDBACK🙏 We love feedback! @jonnymiles Hello, and thanks for supporting us, we take payments upfront so that we can guarantee that the prize is available to the bounty hunter. when the pull request is made, if there is a disagreement between the bounty creator and the bounty solver, the bounty hunter can create a dispute, then the bounty prize is frozen (the bounty creator can't retract his money). then we do a manual verification of the pull request and try to resolve the issue between the two in the chat. since the platform is new we don't have any disputes created yet but it's how we plan to solve them and it's mainly why we are taking fees as a middle man.

@jai_singhal thank you, For bounty creators is as simple as pasting the link of your GitHub issue, For bounty hunters to get paid you must submit a pull request to the GitHub repository of the issue, and getting your pull request accepted can be challenging if you are a beginner developer (but this depends on the repository you are contributing to and how hard is the issue to solve), then you can just paste it in BountyHub and we handle the rest.

@jalcantara Nice idea, but as of today contributing to a GitHub repository is hard for current gen LLMs maybe in the future AI would solve all the issues on github.

Huge congrats to the BountyHub team on today's launch! I love how you're incentivizing open-source contributions - who doesn't want to get paid for solving pesky GitHub issues? Here's a quick question: Are there plans to integrate BountyHub with other popular dev platforms beyond GitHub, or is the focus solely on the GitHub ecosystem for now?

@ihuzaifashoukat as of right now we focus on open-source and GitHub is largest platform for that. Maybe in the future we can integrate it with GitLab and other platforms. For proprietary software platforms like Upwork are more suitable.

How about people open the PR, the maintainer copies the solution and doesn't accept the PR? Is there a way to prevent maintainers gain free code promising money?

@davide_mk that's a good question. Once a pull request is submitted, the bounty cannot be retracted unless the bounty creatore explicitly declines the pull request on the platform. If a pull request is declined, the bounty hunter must wait 7 days before retracting the bounty amount. During these 7 days, the bounty claimer can create a dispute. This would pause the bounty process until it's resolved through a chat between the two parties and platform support. And in some cases we have to try the project on the pull request branch.

Congratulations, that's a great approach for a problem all developers have but nobody is dealing with! This could easily be transformed in an ad hoc hiring platform for developers!
