Hey ProductHunt,
Excited to share bookshelf.so with the world!
I've always loved the idea of sharing your personal book recommendations, reviews, and notes online with friends & others in a way that goes beyond just a page of books with your ratings (like Goodreads).
The books you choose to read, which ones you like, and the stories & insights you extract from them can both help other people, and also reflect parts of yourself in a rare way where others get to learn about you & how you think.
I've also personally benefitted from these pages, since many of my own books have come from recommendations from book pages of Derek Sivers, Bill Gates, and others.
Because of this, I spent a little too much time building my own person book review page with a full interactive 3D bookshelf, and when I shared it, everyone wanted to make one - so here's my answer to that request 😄
Nothing beats the satisfaction of clicking through all the books in one of these bookshelves and watching the animation.
I also find myself more excited to read and finish books because I get to add them to my bookshelf, write about my thoughts, and share my reviews with my friends.
I hope this can bring the aesthetic beauty, public thought sharing, and personalization that book pages deserve 📚
Now everyone else can build their own pages as well - hope some people have as much fun with it as I do 😄
@adammaj tried it out, really nice design, love the 3D books, 📚👌but one thing I don’t really like having to use a url for the book cover in manual mode, and one more small issue I found, I think you need to limit the book review to like 200 characters, on the many list page.
Cool, simple idea and nice execution! without creating an account I cant interact with the full scope of the product (I think I should be able to see reviews + ratings). It would be cool to either have a link for me to click to see what that might look like, or have the landing page "shelf" also include those components. Maybe the goal is to drive conversion, but in generally I would be keen to know what my page would look like were I to invest in building it out.
All the best, and congrats on shipping!
Hi Adam, I imported my goodreads books last night (there were many) and am getting an error when I go to the link provided. Didn't see anywhere to ask for support on the actual site, so came back here :)
Amazing design, easy to use, Goodreads integration, this is a mature product for a first launch... I spent 10 mins to set up my library and the result is stunning, I'm using it as part of my online "bio" to share insights about my personality, with a fancy UI.
Loved It! way to go. All the best.
It would be great if you introduce a widget or embed in the future which we can add into our personal websites/portfolios or even bento pages.
Great idea. Works and is simple but effective.
Imported my Goodreads and had it all set up fairly quickly. The import took a bit, but nothing drastic. I like the concept and don't think it needs to go crazy with features, but as others have said, the website, login, and using it could use some documentation and perhaps include more standard UX.
On mobile, I can't scroll through books. I can only open them and move the "chain" along one by one.
My only request, aside from fixing mobile, is to add a sort feature. I'd love to list my top books or allow viewers to sort them however they want when viewing.
I hope you can flesh it out a bit more Adam. I like the visual nature of this a lot.
