Booklet - Async forums as an alternative to chat

Modern discussion forum and member directory for professional groups. It sends calm, automated summaries to everybody so that they stay informed and engaged - even if they never sign in.

"It sends calm, automated summaries to everybody so that they stay informed and engaged - even if they never sign in." I was just having a discussion around this the other day. Custom domain is also a really lovely branded twist. I am curious if you have plans to make this into an add-on for Discord/Slack? I recently stopped using anything outside of those b/c it was just too many apps to juggle, but would love something like this for the busy Discord servers I'm in.

@esus @philipithomas Maybe this is exactly what you meant, but it would be awesome if you could generate a Booklet based on a slack/discord/whatever. Auto-generate Booklet posts each day based on conversations happening in slack as a way to group/record ideas, and then of course have the newsletter based on that, just to provide Booklet as an alternative way to consume existing chat channels. I guess things might get complicated if somebody then tries to make a post in Booklet... Do you then make a post in the source Slack? Anyway super cool!

I love the concept here, I think you're trying to solve a serious communication and documentation issue in a lot of orgs. I like the email summaries as well. I would actually love to see some more info the summaries, like a summarized version of the conversation or something like that.

Wish I'd had this years ago for communities I was running. So many dead communities because folks didn't want to use Slack, Discord, or Whatsapp. Such a better way to run communities that don't need to be barraging folks with notifications.

Excited to try Booklet for the communities i’m running as slack is overwhelming

We’ve been using Booklet internally for topic-based threads like weekly team updates, product discussions, and articles to read within our company. I’ve also liked it for small group communities like founder communities in NYC. It’s been a great alternative to Slack or Discord, where topics get lost and people have to stay engaged 24/7 just to stay on top of all the notifications. This is the first product I’ve tried that feels like you can passively follow along using email, but engage using threads like a forum (when you want to). I’d love to see some features like calendar invite integrations and list management per topic.

Based on how you describe it, @philipithomas would it be fair to say that the daily summary email is just as much the product as the platform itself?

I’ve been getting booklet summary emails for a little while now. Find them to be super useful. If something peeks my interest in the email, I’ll jump into the group to get more info.

Congrats on the launch! Please could you share more about what makes it different to https://www.discourse.org/ ? As discourse has an email summary etc. so I could not understand the difference.

I've been using Booklet for a few weeks now in beta form as part of a small, private community. It's *nice*. This is a tough space, and success will be hard. But if you want to give your community its own space, if you value thoughtful, human-centric (calm?) design and delightful experiences, and if you don't want to force people to master a complex, arcane tool, then Booklet should be top of your list.

Congratulations on the launch! Do you plan to add direct migrations in the near future for communities to export their discord or slack workspaces into Booklet?

This is really exciting, congratulations @philipithomas! This is a much-needed product, and I could see it being the go-to platform for small communities like ours. Excited to see how it evolves!
I've tried summaries to keep up - but tend to find I ignore them after a while. How are you combatting that?

How many of us are part of Slack communities that we barely engage? Creating community is hard. I've looked into a variety of options and I'm most excited about what Booklet has to offer. Elegant, calm, and smart – the app is a welcome space to gauge what conversations to prioritize and makes it easy to engage.

Wow this looks amazing! Congratulations!!
