WHO IS THIS BOOK FOR? 🔹 Business owners who take care of their website themselves. You’ll learn how to write better copy and how to make sure that your design doesn’t kill your message. 🔹 Copywriter who want to sharpen their skill and also learn how to prevent designers from murdering their copy later on. You’ll learn to spot bad design decisions and discover powerful arguments to use in conversations with your clients and their designers. 🔹 Web designers who want to design not only pretty websites but also websites that convert. 🔹 Business owners who are planning to hire someone to create their website for them. You’ll learn how to spot ineffective copy and sloppy design to make sure that the pretty website you’re paying for will also convert. WHAT IS IT ABOUT? "Making Your Website Work" helps you understand what makes a great website through practical tips you can apply on the spot. ❌ It doesn’t teach you all the copywriting formulas. It doesn't make you learn design rules by heart. And it doesn't talk a lot about things in theory. ✔️ Instead, it talks abut real website problems that freelancers, digital agencies, ecommerce shops and SaaS companies face – the same problems you have with your website – and shows you how to fix them through practical tips. AMONG OTHER THINGS, YOU'LL LEARN: * How to spot (and fix) vague and self-centered copy * How to sound trustworthy even without testimonials * How to structure your homepage to make your message clear * Why you should delete your Testimonials and FAQ pages * Where to place call-to-action buttons to get more people to click * What design mistakes get in the way of your message Look inside the book on Gumroad or Amazon.

An excellent book. I’ve read if a few times because it’s clear, practical and insightful. One of my favorites.
New User
Lots of actionable tips presented in a language normal people understand. Most importantly, she explains why things do and don't work.
Gill Andrews
@new_user_32238dcbe7 Thanks. Glad you found it useful :)

I've got the 'real' book. Reading a book costs time and money. A lot of books are worth the money, few are worth the time. This one however is totally worth it, packed with useful advice. I normally 'dog ear' interesting parts of a book. I stopped doing it with this book after the first few pages, there's no point in dog-earing every page.
Gill Andrews
So glad to hear you found it useful, @phadermann Your comment about the dog-earing made me laugh out loud 😄

Having created my own website for the first time, I found this book really useful for fine tuning the site. It's my "go-to" book when making changes as Gill has lots of practical tips and ideas to consider.
Gill Andrews
That's so nice to hear @elizabeth_godfrey Glad my book helps you with your website.

Agree with the others - excellent book. No fluff - just really useful, clear and manageable. Will be recommending it to all my web design clients.

Don't think, just get it. Gill has a gift of cutting straight through the noise to lay out clearly what works, why it works - and most importantly, how to do it yourself. If you like tips telling you to Convey authority! Display passion! then go look elsewhere, but if you want specific, actionable and implementable tips where you also understand why you're doing these changes, this is the book for you. Written in an engaging, friendly style with plenty of humour ("Why are you laughing, what book is that?" "A book about web design and copy" "...") this is not a book that you'll have to force yourself to read. You won't want to put it down!
Gill Andrews
@ruti_d Thank you so much for your kind words, Ruti 🙌

Bridget Holland
Practical and down to earth. All the obvious-when-you-think-about-it stuff people don't think about, in one handy reference. The only thing wrong with it is that for geographic reasons I had to buy the ebook and I really need a hard copy on my desk with post it notes on the best pages. (The one with content sanity checks for specific page types.)
Gill Andrews
@bridget_holland Thank you so much for your kind words, Bridget 🌻 Yes, the paperback version is handier. Before Corona, I sent out a couple of paperbacks to places where people didn't have access to Amazon. I hope to be able to do it again once the plague is over. If you still think you need a paperback then, I'd be happy to send you a signed copy :)
