Hi PH! This is Dan from the Bestie.co team. Bestie is a new social platform experiment that lets you create a profile to track and share your favorite things (products, places, movies, podcasts etc). Think Pinterest but for information instead of images. As you connect with others, you'll be able to search their profiles for what you need: an accountant, high-end headphones, a restaurant, book recommendations - you name it. The three of us started working on this project just a few weeks ago and are using Bubble.io to iterate rapidly (mobile apps coming soon). We'd love to hear your feedback on the profile building experience and I'll be here today to to answer any of your questions! 🙏

Awesome work, especially for building with Bubble! Looks like an exciting way to connect with others.

@lachlankirkwood Thanks Lachlan! I'd love to hear your thoughts if you get the chance to check it out!

Bestie is a fun and creative platform which allows me to share my “favorite” streaming shows, books I am reading, restaurants I like, arts and crafts ideas and much more. The graphics and memes make the user experience super fun and really brightens my day! You should definitely try Bestie and share it with all your friends!

Ok, so I’m the type of person who blanks out on the names of her favorite restaurants, can’t settle on one favorite movie, and is embarrassed to admit when she can’t remember one of her friend’s favorite things. Bestie is the solution to all that. I can keep track of the restaurants and media I like, put all my online recipes in one place so as not to clutter my bookmarks, and check my boyfriend’s Bestie profile when I’m getting him a surprise gift and am not sure what he would like best. I also like that I can see my friends’ favorite things, and when they are also my favorite things, I can add them to my profile too.

I have a similar project in Turkish language. If you don't mind, may I learn which APIs you used for movies and books? There are many APIs but I couldn't decide which one is best. @dankusbit

@onur_kaplan Hey Onur, thanks for reaching out. For movies we've been using OMDB https://www.omdbapi.com/ and for books we've been using Google Books https://developers.google.com/bo... OMDB has been great for us so far but we've had a bad experience with Google Books mostly due to missing titles and the search features aren't great. We're considering switching to a different books API like Goodreads or something else. Best of luck!
Onur Kaplan
@dankusbit Thanks for your advice. We've been using https://www.imdb.com/interfaces/ for movies. But it doesn't provide posters. We think to use API of OMDB for only posters. Do you have any info about rate limit of OMDB-API? For books we've been using Google Books too and we had realized that there were many missing titles too. Goodreads has rate limit of 5 request per minute. What do you think about handling this rate limit?
Daniel Kusbit
@onur_kaplan Thats good to know about the Goodreads API, thank you! We're going to need to search for something else then. OMDB has a rate limit of 1000 calls per day which is fine for us for now. Do you have any recommendations for a products API? (eg amazon)
Onur Kaplan
@dankusbit No idea about products API for English. I searched for Turkish but I couldn't find :/
Onur Kaplan
@dankusbit I found an app similar to bestie.co: http://sociali.st/ (it is inactive now)
