Do you see this developing into its own standalone community? @delahuntagram
David Delahunty
@abadesi Great question. To be honest I don't really know. What I do know is that people seem to love my 5 ideas and the community has been growing both on my site and social. So there is definitely an opportunity to create something interesting.

@delahuntagram I love this concept! Would you like a wider distribution in mobile-first countries (where no one reads emails!)? I am founder of InTouchApp and we would love to get you content reach our audience (InTouchApp allows people to join groups / communities and consume the content. We have things like "Word a day" groups that people have joined to get & learn a new word daily). If you are interested, let's connect over email? I am at sarang _at_ intouchapp dot com. Thanks!
David Delahunty
@saranglakare Hey Sarang, thank you for offering that service, it's much appreciated. The ideas can be consumed both on email and also on our web app - the web app allows the community to discuss the ideas and also like each others comments. I really appreciate the suggestion though and wish you every success with InTouchApp, it looks great :)

@delahuntagram Hey, can we discuss this over email privately? The mobile world works on notifications - every day, users will get a notification about 5 ideas that they can click to check out, discuss, etc. Unfortunately, going to websites and consuming content is not how a mobile-first user access content. I would love to discuss this further. Your group on InTouchApp would be your property - not ours. Think of it like another channel besides email and your website. Thanks!

It's a good exercise, not all of it is useful, some of it is really funny. overall, it's great

Pros:

might get some useful ideas, changes the mindset

Cons:

one more email

David Delahunty
Thanks for the great feedback Bogdan :) I receive numerous emails every day of spam, product discounts and just general noise. My daily email (I hope) will inspire the reader and maybe spark an idea in them.
Spencer Fry
It's a very quick email to scan and enjoy. 👍 I've been a subscriber for months. Always gets me thinking.
David Delahunty
@spencerfry Thank you for the kind words Spencer 👍, wouldn't be possible without the awesome platform - http://podia.com/

Honestly, pretty good ideas in the inaugural email. I look forward to selecting a few at random for my "thing a week" projects.

Pros:

"just another email" less than a standard printed page, easily digested, good ideas

Cons:

Very little site content at launch - should improve as emails are archived

David Delahunty
Cheers Adam, glad to have you on board.

Love the concept and execution of this. It'd be great if in future you could allow some form of crowd sourcing for people to contribute to the initial seed idea - a way for people to work together to document monetisation strategies, audience, feasibility etc.
David Delahunty
@magnet1cfields Great idea Andy. The community is in its infancy so who knows what will evolve over time.
S. Ketharaman
Great idea. An idea whose time has come. Idea matters but execution matters more. LOL that's already 3 ideas for today:) I've already subscribed! Must be my record for the fastest signup from ProductHunt. BTW, re. your Instagram bookmark idea, I've proposed exactly the same idea for HootSuite.
David Delahunty
@s_ketharaman Glad to have you on board :) Don't forget to share your ideas with the community.
Ammar Showkat
Hi David, I just joined the community and wanted to thank you for the value this has provided me within just 30 minutes of joining. However I've ran into a problem. I joined today (May 2nd). On your website/community, I can only access the post of May 2nd, May 1st and April 30th. I am unable to access the posts before April 30th. Every post is showing a bizarre photo in which this is written 5 times in bold "Membership, 5 Ideas A Day Community"

Could there be an option to get emails weekly instead of daily, @delahuntagram ? It could be a simple concatenation of the ideas of the week (no additional workload for you), or only a random day's ideas form that week ... Or the top most discussed ideas / the most shared / the most (more work unless automated with code). The con to me is really the quantity of emails. While people like designers or any other creative people who need to exercise creativity on a daily basis would be good with new ideas everyday, for many others it might be a bit much... As for me, I know that once something becomes too much, i either discard, set up a rule to archive any incoming email or unsubscribe.

Some ideas are useful while others are whacky. But 100% of these ideas result in creative juices flowing. There are other websites which are idea "banks" or forums, usually. run by companies that want to patent these ideas. Giving away is ok as most of these are incremental features in existing products; very few will result in a new venture. Have you thought of converting these ideas into a forum where people can vote so that the most popular ideas bubble up to the top? And have people contribute to the feasibility or a high level analysis, may be a business plan?
