Augmented reality ads are coming to your News Feed
A more immersive way to show off products 🛍️

Facebook is giving advertisers new ways to show off their products, including with augmented reality. At its F8 developer conference earlier this year, Facebook announced that it was working with businesses to use AR to show off products in Messenger. Now a similar experience will start appearing in the News Feed, with a select group of advertisers testing out AR ads.
The ads will appear normal in the feed, but will include an option to “Tap to try it on,” allowing users to interact with the product with AR.
Michael Kors was the first brand to test AR ads in News Feed, enabling people to try on a pair of sunglasses and make a purchase based on their experience. Later this summer, we will begin testing AR ads with some additional advertisers such as Sephora, and others in fashion accessories, cosmetics, furniture, gaming and entertainment, and we plan to roll out AR ads more broadly to other industries over the course of the year.
The new format will provide consumers with a more engaging way to interact with promoted items. Rather than having to travel to a store to try something on or test an item in their living room, they'll be able to do it directly from the app. Facebook hopes this will lead to more ad sales through their platform, and encourage more brands to try it for themselves.
Staying with the retail theme, Facebook revealed that its "Shopping on Instagram Stories" feature is expanding globally. With a billion monthly active users (and counting), Instagram has become increasingly important, for Facebook's bottom line and for brands who advertise and sell products on the app. Ahmad-Taylor said Stories now has 400 million daily active users, and that 80 percent of Instagram accounts follow a business -- which makes it hard for anyone to ignore.
The feature is still being tested, but as the platform expands to more brands, you can expect to see them appear in your feed soon 🛍️
