Hello! My name is Sara Dietschy (rhymes with peachy). I am a New York City based Youtuber and an Adobe Creative Resident. I create vlogs, tech reviews and documentary series. I know a lot about camera gear and the internet and have gotten the chance to interview many next level entrepreneurs — ask me anything!
Ryan Hoover@rrhoover · Founder, Product Hunt
As a content creator, what platform are you most excited about in the next few years?
Sara Dietschy@saradietschy · Content Creator, YouTube
@rrhoover I am actually very excited to get more into Instagram this next year. I am not the biggest fan of Facebook and Instagram has been adding so many features I am seeing greater value in investing in that platform vs FB. Tagging in stories + explore page makes it easy to grow organically and it's valuable to have an audience on it when working with brands. YouTube + Insta + Twitter + Snapchat = going all in. I am not going to worry about Facebook for now. Lmk when you're in NYC and we shall drink La Croix together!

@saradietschy @rrhoover Instagram has sort of taking my attention a lot towards the end of 2016 and I think it'll be a primary goal to really beef up my content and following on there. It's a great platform that I feel is only just starting to show its true power even though its been around for several years.

@saradietschy I'll let you know next time I'm in NY! Lacroix on me. 🙌🏼

A lot of people who made it big on YouTube have been at it for a couple of years now and I've heard people say that the YouTube ship has already sailed for newcomers. Do you think it's wise to focus on YouTube now or focus on the next big platform? If the latter, which one would you focus one to grow an audience?
Sara Dietschy@saradietschy · Content Creator, YouTube
@freshfey YouTube is very saturated right now but it is still THE platform for searchable content. If what you're passionate about lines up with "How To" and "Review" videos - it is still very feasible to grow an audience. It's all about finding the balance between searchable / topical content + the passion projects you really care about!
Niklas Goeke@niklasgoeke
@freshfey I don't think any ships have sailed for anyone on any of the "old" platforms. It's just patience. For impatient people, the ship has always sailed. As long as you're patient you can win anywhere. I think the MUCH bigger question is what kind of content fits you? If you're good at/love writing, then Youtube isn't for you. If you do better in person, by all means, do Youtube. Plus it has the advantage that you can re-use content from a video 150 different ways too. I wouldn't rule out any platform just because of saturation and/or slowing growth.

Hi Sara, great to hear that you’re continuing the Creative Spaces TV series on YouTube, it’s awesome! If you could make an episode with anyone in the world, who would it be and why?
Kraig Adams@kaaadams · Entrepreneur and Filmmaker
If you had to give up one social media app what would it be and why?
Sara Dietschy@saradietschy · Content Creator, YouTube
@kaaadams Facebook. It's the only social media that seems like a chore. I no longer have a personal one and barely post to my public page. I think I might just give up this year on it and focus on going all in on the others. But I know FB plays a huge role for your Wedding Film School channel!!

@saradietschy @kaaadams Why, in your opinion, is FB falling off the map for you?
Kraig Adams@kaaadams · Entrepreneur and Filmmaker
@saradietschy I know for a fact that a private "invite only" Facebook group for SUPER PEACHY FANS could run itself if you elect some awesome moderators. People would get a ton of value from it and you wouldn't have to do much. JUST A THOUGHT
Nael Shahbaz@naelshahbaz · PR Strategist at Ways2Wealth
@kaaadams @saradietschy And that's a great thought. I have one FB group running just like that
Kraig Adams@kaaadams · Entrepreneur and Filmmaker
How do you manage the balance between................. 1) Being inspired by your favorite YouTubers VS 2) Striking your own original path?
Kraig Adams@kaaadams · Entrepreneur and Filmmaker
if you were a pokemon what type would you be super effective against?
Sara Dietschy@saradietschy · Content Creator, YouTube
@kaaadams Kraig... your questions are so fire right now. I don't even have an answer for this but thank you. 😂

Do you think you wouldn't be where you are today as a Youtube creator without Casey's shout out to you? I feel like most small creators don't get noticed unless a big Youtuber gives them a shout out.
Sara Dietschy@saradietschy · Content Creator, YouTube
@joel_villegas Oh 100% haha. The thing is I always knew that I could make YouTube my job it was just a matter of how long would it take.. Casey expedited that process for me and I will be forever grateful for that. Even before that though my story from 0 - 4,000 subscribers is the same - just on a smaller scale. I mixed in gear reviews + tutorials with collaborations with different artists via my Creative Spaces TV docuseries. Ted Forbes (The Art of Photography youtube channel) gave me an awesome shout out in the beginning! Ted's channel is awesome and it was cool to get to know him since I used to live in Texas!

What has you the most excited to work on in 2017? You gotta ton of cool projects, but what is going to be most fun for you?
Sara Dietschy@saradietschy · Content Creator, YouTube
@robertoblake I am SO excited about starting live stream shows on my YouTube channel at the end of January! I am nervous about the logistics but I am curious to see if it will be entertaining for my audience & will help my channel grow!
Kraig Adams@kaaadams · Entrepreneur and Filmmaker
Anyone can find a level of SUCCESS with consistent uploads but what makes truly successful OUTLIERS is the their originality. How much do you think about BEING COMPLETELY DIFFERENT THAN ANYTHING OUT ON YOUTUBE? :)
Kraig Adams@kaaadams · Entrepreneur and Filmmaker
Are you vlogging yourself while typing these answers??????
Sara Dietschy@saradietschy · Content Creator, YouTube
@kaaadams I'm still in my pjs soooooo... WILL VLOG SOME OF MY FAVE Q'S AFTER 😊
Ben Tossell@bentossell · newCo
What is your story on getting into vlogging?
Matti Heubner@mattiheubner · Head of Marketing at Vyte
Hi Sara, love your content on YouTube - it is such so heart warming and motivational every time I watch it - so keep that up! 👌💪 Since we are on Product Hunt, I am wondering what tools and apps do you use to keep up your productivity?
Sara Dietschy@saradietschy · Content Creator, YouTube
@mattiheubner Means so much thank you!! When you do "internet" for a living sometimes it's hard to stay productive since scrolling through Twitter is technically work right? ;) I don't have any specific productivity apps I use but I am a huge list maker. I organize my thoughts in my iPhone notes app and my two big whiteboards in my apartment haha. Tools for youtube - sony rx100, a7s ii and a7r ii and Adobe Creative Cloud apps! (premiere, photoshop, lightroom, etc.)

Hi Sara. How long did it take you to learn how to edit videos by yourself? Was it hard?
Jamie Whiffen@whiffenyt
Hey Sara, I'm interested in switching from Canon to Sony just as you have done. I am on the 70d now and don't know what camera is the best for both photo AND video. What would you recommend as I know you have quite a lot of Sony gear. Congrats on the new partnetship with them too. :)
Rebecca Keating@rebeccaekeating · Student, Entrepreneur
Hello Sara! How do you set personal deadlines to keep up that hustle? I would imagine having an YouTube community who's expecting an upload from you probably helps, but are there any other ways you project/time manage to get ish done?
Sara Dietschy@saradietschy · Content Creator, YouTube
@rebeccaekeating DEADLINES ARE SO HUGE!!! Even when I had 1,000 subscribers on my YouTube channel I treated my Tuesday weekly upload like it was the only thing that mattered in the world. I almost didn't upload the video that changed everything for me "How to Casey Neistat a Vlog" because I was insecure of how I looked... crazy right? But because of the certain structure I had in place for myself I felt that pressure to release it even though it wasn't perfect! When you are an artist or entrepreneur, perfect doesn't exist. You have to be comfortable with being uncomfortable.
Rebecca Keating@rebeccaekeating · Student, Entrepreneur
@saradietschy Wow that is crazy! I feel similar about videos I almost didn't upload because xyz. Thanks for the answer! "Perfect doesn't exist. You have to be comfortable with being uncomfortable." Well said!
Paul Tackett@paulztackett · Cinematographer / Creator
@saradietschy @rebeccaekeating This is so good. As a creative and friend of fellow creatives, I feel like this is one of the biggest struggles out there. No video is perfect, they all have their flaws, but if it's "good enough" it's always worth walking away so you can share it. Thanks for all the inspiring work you do Sara, keep it up!
Dario Vaccaro@dariomvvaccaro · Creative Director, RuBy
I'm sure others have asked this question as well, but as someone in a niche like myself (design) that can't really capitalize on trending topics with the content I want to make, what would be the best way to expand or grow a YouTube audience
Sara Dietschy@saradietschy · Content Creator, YouTube
@dariomvvaccaro I think any hobby or occupation can capitalize on trendy things. Design is everything we look at in this world - what is your unique perspective / personality that you can bring to your YouTube channel? Whenever you search something on YouTube and do not find a direct answer - figure out how to do that and make a video on it! If you have a problem that needs to be solved odds are other people will too and that's where you find your audience :)
Aca Suharsya@superaca1
what is your response on casey stop vlogging?
Sara Dietschy@saradietschy · Content Creator, YouTube
@superaca1 I was definitely sad - his vlogs were my goto every single morning with my coffee + brekky but everything he does turns to gold so I am so stoked for his future projects!!
Roberto Blake@robertoblake · 175K YouTube Subs, Educator & Speaker
@saradietschy @superaca1 Erik Conover has been my stand-in for my morning does of Casey!
Jamie Whiffen@whiffenyt
@robertoblake @saradietschy @superaca1 I'll have to check him out - Thanks Roberto!

Hi Sara! Glad to be able to ask you some questions here 🤗 I've seen some have already been asked so I'll wait but I would also like to know: how do you pick a topic and what is your writing/preparing routine for each vlog?
Ross Murray@rmurray89 · Digital Designer, Blogger & Photographer
Hey Sara, love your videos on YouTube. Your pretty much the only vlogger I watch daily now! I was wondering if you have any tips on setting up Wacom express keys for Photoshop or Premiere? Do you use your Wacom for video? What's your favourite set up?
