As a content creator, what platform are you most excited about in the next few years?

@rrhoover I am actually very excited to get more into Instagram this next year. I am not the biggest fan of Facebook and Instagram has been adding so many features I am seeing greater value in investing in that platform vs FB. Tagging in stories + explore page makes it easy to grow organically and it's valuable to have an audience on it when working with brands. YouTube + Insta + Twitter + Snapchat = going all in. I am not going to worry about Facebook for now. Lmk when you're in NYC and we shall drink La Croix together!

@saradietschy @rrhoover Instagram has sort of taking my attention a lot towards the end of 2016 and I think it'll be a primary goal to really beef up my content and following on there. It's a great platform that I feel is only just starting to show its true power even though its been around for several years.

A lot of people who made it big on YouTube have been at it for a couple of years now and I've heard people say that the YouTube ship has already sailed for newcomers. Do you think it's wise to focus on YouTube now or focus on the next big platform? If the latter, which one would you focus one to grow an audience?

@freshfey YouTube is very saturated right now but it is still THE platform for searchable content. If what you're passionate about lines up with "How To" and "Review" videos - it is still very feasible to grow an audience. It's all about finding the balance between searchable / topical content + the passion projects you really care about!

@freshfey I don't think any ships have sailed for anyone on any of the "old" platforms. It's just patience. For impatient people, the ship has always sailed. As long as you're patient you can win anywhere. I think the MUCH bigger question is what kind of content fits you? If you're good at/love writing, then Youtube isn't for you. If you do better in person, by all means, do Youtube. Plus it has the advantage that you can re-use content from a video 150 different ways too. I wouldn't rule out any platform just because of saturation and/or slowing growth.

If you had to give up one social media app what would it be and why?

@kaaadams Facebook. It's the only social media that seems like a chore. I no longer have a personal one and barely post to my public page. I think I might just give up this year on it and focus on going all in on the others. But I know FB plays a huge role for your Wedding Film School channel!!

@saradietschy @kaaadams Why, in your opinion, is FB falling off the map for you?

@saradietschy I know for a fact that a private "invite only" Facebook group for SUPER PEACHY FANS could run itself if you elect some awesome moderators. People would get a ton of value from it and you wouldn't have to do much. JUST A THOUGHT

Do you think you wouldn't be where you are today as a Youtube creator without Casey's shout out to you? I feel like most small creators don't get noticed unless a big Youtuber gives them a shout out.

@joel_villegas Oh 100% haha. The thing is I always knew that I could make YouTube my job it was just a matter of how long would it take.. Casey expedited that process for me and I will be forever grateful for that. Even before that though my story from 0 - 4,000 subscribers is the same - just on a smaller scale. I mixed in gear reviews + tutorials with collaborations with different artists via my Creative Spaces TV docuseries. Ted Forbes (The Art of Photography youtube channel) gave me an awesome shout out in the beginning! Ted's channel is awesome and it was cool to get to know him since I used to live in Texas!

@robertoblake I am SO excited about starting live stream shows on my YouTube channel at the end of January! I am nervous about the logistics but I am curious to see if it will be entertaining for my audience & will help my channel grow!

Hi Sara, love your content on YouTube - it is such so heart warming and motivational every time I watch it - so keep that up! 👌💪
Since we are on Product Hunt, I am wondering what tools and apps do you use to keep up your productivity?
M
Sara Dietschy
@saradietschy · Content Creator, YouTube
@mattiheubner Means so much thank you!! When you do "internet" for a living sometimes it's hard to stay productive since scrolling through Twitter is technically work right? ;) I don't have any specific productivity apps I use but I am a huge list maker. I organize my thoughts in my iPhone notes app and my two big whiteboards in my apartment haha. Tools for youtube - sony rx100, a7s ii and a7r ii and Adobe Creative Cloud apps! (premiere, photoshop, lightroom, etc.)

Hello Sara! How do you set personal deadlines to keep up that hustle? I would imagine having an YouTube community who's expecting an upload from you probably helps, but are there any other ways you project/time manage to get ish done?
M
Sara Dietschy
@saradietschy · Content Creator, YouTube
@rebeccaekeating DEADLINES ARE SO HUGE!!! Even when I had 1,000 subscribers on my YouTube channel I treated my Tuesday weekly upload like it was the only thing that mattered in the world. I almost didn't upload the video that changed everything for me "How to Casey Neistat a Vlog" because I was insecure of how I looked... crazy right? But because of the certain structure I had in place for myself I felt that pressure to release it even though it wasn't perfect! When you are an artist or entrepreneur, perfect doesn't exist. You have to be comfortable with being uncomfortable.

@saradietschy Wow that is crazy! I feel similar about videos I almost didn't upload because xyz. Thanks for the answer! "Perfect doesn't exist. You have to be comfortable with being uncomfortable." Well said!

@saradietschy @rebeccaekeating This is so good. As a creative and friend of fellow creatives, I feel like this is one of the biggest struggles out there. No video is perfect, they all have their flaws, but if it's "good enough" it's always worth walking away so you can share it. Thanks for all the inspiring work you do Sara, keep it up!
