Hi all, I’m Nichole Elizabeth DeMeré. I'm a SaaS Consultant and Customer Success Evangelist and a Moderator at Product Hunt (previously the Community Manager) and GrowthHackers.com. I primarily work with B2B SaaS companies to help them grow their businesses from problem-solution fit to product-market fit to scale. I was also previously Growth at Inbound.org, the Head of Content at Growth Hacker TV, and I co-owned a full-service marketing agency, Inturact.com, for six years. My favorite people tend to be rappers and mathematicians. I spend a lot of time taking artistic photographs and I absolutely love Instagram. I also really love foxes!
Ryan Hoover@rrhoover · Founder, Product Hunt
Nikki! Good to see you. I'm going to ask a question unrelated to marketing, growth, and the typical startup questions because I love your music tastes... What have you discovered in the past week that you love? Where do you typically find new music?
Nichole Elizabeth DeMeré@nikkielizdemere · Co-Founder PurposeBeyondProduct.com
@rrhoover Hi Ryan! I didn't discover his music in the last week, but I'd recommend Alex Banks. I've been listening to his music a lot lately. I usually discover new music by listening to my SoundCloud feed (which is curated by people I'm following) and I tend to surround myself with musically-inclined friends who are always sharing music with me, much like you. 💛

What tarot card do you think would best represent an inbound marketer?
Nichole Elizabeth DeMeré@nikkielizdemere · Co-Founder PurposeBeyondProduct.com
@kikischirr So Inbound Marketing is about being receptive, getting people to come to you, and helping them find the answers that they need - so of the Major Arcana, probably The Magician.
Adam Marx@adammarx13 · Freelance writer/editor and music addict
@nikkielizdemere @kikischirr this reminds me of an answer to @rrhoover's question about music. reminds me a ton of "The Def Leppard E.P." ;D thanks Nichole!
Nichole Elizabeth DeMeré@nikkielizdemere · Co-Founder PurposeBeyondProduct.com
@adammarx13 @kikischirr Adam, The Magician pictured here is from The Wild Unknown deck. It's beautiful!

I know you recently launched @GetTheCraft marketing newsletter with @KikiSchirr, and @VioletaNedkova. What has been your favorite part of this journey so far? Why is it important to connect with other women in tech, and what fresh perspectives does this collaboration bring?
Nichole Elizabeth DeMeré@nikkielizdemere · Co-Founder PurposeBeyondProduct.com
@sstormes Both @KikiSchirr and @VioletaNedkova are extremely talented and I am humbled to get the chance to work with them. My favorite part of my adventure with them so far is all the laughs we have during our meetings. It's important to connect with other women in tech. because we need to support each other by giving each other opportunities to grow and have a voice in the field. Our own voice. Not just someone else speaking on our behalf.
Kevin Strasser@kjstrasser · CEO TribeBoost / Founder MoSquatch
Hi Nichole. So cool to see you being featured today. What marketing mistake are you surprised to see most #SaaS companies are still making?
Nichole Elizabeth DeMeré@nikkielizdemere · Co-Founder PurposeBeyondProduct.com
@kjstrasser Hi Kevin! They don't identify their ideal customer and they don't get out of the building and talk to them face-to-face / do Customer Development. For anyone who wants to start doing Customer Development, I'd recommend reading The Startup Owner's Manual and working through the checklists in the back of the book.
Stacey Stormes@sstormes · artist/educator
Hey, Nichole. =) 1. What is your favorite thing about working with startups? 2. What is the most exciting aspect of social media?
Nichole Elizabeth DeMeré@nikkielizdemere · Co-Founder PurposeBeyondProduct.com
@sstormes Hi Stacey! I love startup culture because it's filled with the very people who are inventing the future. There's always something new and exciting to learn about. And I love social media because I'm able to connect with startup founders and possibly help them bring about that future.
Samantha Cuellar@samanthajc15 · Account Executive
@nikkielizdemere How did you build your online presence? What's one tip of advice for people who want to follow in your footsteps?
Nichole Elizabeth DeMeré@nikkielizdemere · Co-Founder PurposeBeyondProduct.com
@samanthajc15 Hi Samantha! To build my online presence, I've spent a lot of time contributing to GrowthHackers.com, Inbound.org, and Product Hunt as well as curating content on Twitter around the clock (every hour on the hour over 24 hours), and guest blogging for sites such as HubSpot. I also build relationships with people on Twitter by chatting with them on Skype/the phone/Google Hangouts at some point and getting to know them better.
Stacey Stormes@sstormes · artist/educator
@nikkielizdemere @samanthajc15 How do you find time for it all? ;) I know you are super dedicated to genuine engagement on a personal level. What does your scheduling around this look like? How do you manage the level of interaction on social media + these extra mile 1 on 1s you mention?
Emily Hodgins@ems_hodge · Operations @ Product Hunt
Hi Nichole! Thanks for joining us today. 🙌 What has surprised you the most in your time working with start-ups?
Nichole Elizabeth DeMeré@nikkielizdemere · Co-Founder PurposeBeyondProduct.com
@ems_hodge Hi Emily! I've mostly been surprised by how many startups aren't customer-centric. They either haven't talked to their customers or don't want to talk to them.
Ross Simmonds@thecoolestcool · Entrepreneur | Giving 💯
Hey Nichole - Love seeing you here! Two questions: 1) As mentioned in your answer to @Samanthajc15, you've built a significant following by engaging on communities like GrowthHackers.com, Inbound.org, and Product Hunt while also curating content on Twitter around the clock. What tips and tricks would you offer someone looking to be more effective with their time online? 2) What do you do to avoid burnout? Thanks for jumping on here to chat! *fistbump*
Nichole Elizabeth DeMeré@nikkielizdemere · Co-Founder PurposeBeyondProduct.com
@thecoolestcool Hi Ross! 1) I'm subscribed to 40+ newsletters which help me to sift through content to post to these communities and I use Buffer to schedule content around the clock. 2) To avoid burnout, I do weight lifting three times a week, I meditate every day, and I only work 9-5 M-F. I do not believe in sacrificing my personal life for my career.
Catherine Trestini@cattrestini · Freelance Social Media Strategist in FL.
Nichole, how do you like the Tampa startup/tech scene? Or are you more vested in online communities? From one Floridian to another. :-)
Nichole Elizabeth DeMeré@nikkielizdemere · Co-Founder PurposeBeyondProduct.com
@cattrestini Hi Catherine! There are some brilliant people in the Tampa startup scene such as @KikiSchirr and @tracyingram, but I am more involved in the startup scene in California than in Florida, to be honest.

Irina Jordan@irinajordan · Director of Inbound Marketing
Hi Nichole :). Glad to see an Inbound.org fellow. Q1: Is there such a thing as influencer marketing? Q2: What has proven to be successful for you when scaling up a SaaS offering? Thanks!
Nichole Elizabeth DeMeré@nikkielizdemere · Co-Founder PurposeBeyondProduct.com
@irinajordan Hi Irina, would love to answer your questions but can you expound on what you mean by 'influencer marketing' (since there are different definitions for it, just want to ensure that we're on the same page) and 'scaling up a SaaS offering'. By the latter, do you mean scaling a SaaS after it's reached product-market fit?
Danny Espinoza@abcdannye · Founder @looksyvideo
Nichole, are there effective strategies for doing inbound marketing in consumer facing startups? I assume this has a lot to do with whether your target customers are already engaged in online communities, but would love to hear your thoughts, thanks!
Nichole Elizabeth DeMeré@nikkielizdemere · Co-Founder PurposeBeyondProduct.com
@dannyjespinoza Have you ever revisited a book you didn’t like as a child, only to find that you love it now? Now, it says exactly what you need to hear – because you’re ready to hear it. Great content is like that. Not only does it need to be well-written, interesting and valuable, it also has to be timed just right to have the most impact. This is where the Buyer’s Journey comes into play. When you create content around each stage of the Buyer’s Journey, you increase the chances that the right information finds the right people at the right time. I go more into more detail about mapping content to the buyer's journey on @sujanpatel's blog.
Dre Durr💡@dredurr · Growth is the only thing that matters
Hey Nichole, As a former community manager for PH, what is the process for selecting hunted products to be featured on the home page?
Nichole Elizabeth DeMeré@nikkielizdemere · Co-Founder PurposeBeyondProduct.com
@dredurr Hi Deandre, this is a question better suited for the current Community Manager, @bentossell.
Ben Tossell@bentossell · newCo
@nikkielizdemere @dredurr hey :) - there is no 'magic formula' for featuring hunted products as such. Our community and moderators have a large part to play - some products can be noticed through discussions (here and on Twitter), some are obvious super cool products - we have many sets of eyes that look into this and help ensure we get a great range of diverse and interesting products on the homepage.
Dre Durr💡@dredurr · Growth is the only thing that matters
@bentossell Thank you so much! Very informative
Dre Durr💡@dredurr · Growth is the only thing that matters
@nikkielizdemere @dredurr Thank you a million Nikki for the referral

Hi Nichole, we are working on releasing a fleet management SaaS tool soon. Do you have any tips or advices on how we should approach the "going to market" strategy?
Nichole Elizabeth DeMeré@nikkielizdemere · Co-Founder PurposeBeyondProduct.com
@amirp Hi Amir, check out this interview with @SeanEllis in which he explains how to bring a product to market. It's so useful that I've listened to it three or four times. Let me know if you still have questions after listening to it. You can follow-up with me on Twitter.

@nikkielizdemere @amirp Thank you so much!!!

How can #SaaS companies make a better marriage between their inbound marketing and social media marketing?
Nichole Elizabeth DeMeré@nikkielizdemere · Co-Founder PurposeBeyondProduct.com
@kjstrasser Hi Kevin, can you expound on your question?
Violeta Nedkova@violetanedkova · Creative Rebel Coach
Hey Nikki, my inspiration and lovely colleague!!! :) My question is simple: What are your long-term goals? Where do you want to be in 10 years? I know it's a cliche question, but I like asking people that.
Juan Pablo Rojas@unmalnick · Data Analysis
Hi Nichole, What do you think about the term "Growth Hacker" and the people that said that is incorrect 'cause there is not an "easy way" or a hack to growth an startup?
Violeta Nedkova@violetanedkova · Creative Rebel Coach
@unmalnick Hah, good question. Hot topic for sure.
Amir Pakzadian@amirp · Sr PM @ Amazon / Founder of Bia2.com
I have one more question, do you have any tips on how to better approach the face-to-face meetings with customers? Any questions you recommend asking or not asking them?
