Hey, I'm Josh Samman, UFC fighter, writer for UFC.com and BloodyElbow.com, and author of the memoir The Housekeeper: Love, Death, and Prizefighting. I own a Mixed Martial Arts organization in Florida, called Combat Night, and coach seminars on martial arts. I have several points of view to gain experience from, and am happy to represent the sport.

Personal relationships (if that's a resource?), music, and exercise

I recently watched Conor lose to Nate, and Holly lose to Miesha. Both were upsets many fans didn't seem to expect. When you're watching a fight, are there certain things you see in a fighter that hint at what direction things will go during the fight (like overconfidence, stance, facial expressions, etc)?
What's the first thing you look for in your opponent when you get into the ring?

@melissajoykong Once someone starts breathing heavily, it usually spells the end for them before long. In the ring, I'm looking for a sign that they are unsure of themself from the beginning.

@jeffumbro there's a guy name Danny Downes that contributes to MMAJunkie.com. Some have blogs. I'm not sure about others.

Recently, @garyvee wrote this:
"Being an entrepreneur is a lot like being a fighter in the UFC. In the UFC, everybody’s going to get smashed in the face. It’s just part of the sport. Entrepreneurship is the same—there’s going to be hard blows you’ll have to take along the way. Shake it off and get back up. You may lose the round, but there’s still the whole fight left."
What's your take on losing?

@melissajoykong @garyvee I watch a lot of fights, and have seen plenty of unbeatable people lose, sometimes harshly. It's best to remember that losses are inevitable, and are going to be part of the sport.

Do you see technology playing a part in the sport? Will it have a more prominent part in the future of the sport?

@ems_hodge Absolutely. I'm on the internet often, reading articles and watching videos on technique. Things like that weren't available in the beginning of the sport.

While most people focus on the physicality of UFC fighting, I'm sure the mental strength required is just as, if not more, important. What's your process for staying mentally tough during training, but also in the middle of a fight—especially if you're losing and exhausted?

@joshsamman · Josh Samman, UFC
@melissajoykong During training it's best to keep a head-down-keep-grinding attitude until fight day. During the fight, I like to have a few things I know I'll draw inspiration from, and keep them in the back of my mind until I need them if the going gets tough.

Hi Josh, who or what do you take inspiration from?

@ems_hodge I draw inspiration from everywhere I can. My mom, and a few of those around me are what seem to motivate me best.
