Hi all, John here. I'm the founder and host of EOFire, an award winning Podcast where I interview today's most inspiring Entrepreneurs 7-days a week. I've produced over 1000 episodes and EOFire generates $300,000 a month in revenue. With over 1 million unique monthly listens, EOFire has inspired Fire Nation to face their fears and take the Entrepreneurial leap! Ask away!

@johnleedumas as you know you are a personal hero of mine and @twentyminutevc my question is what of all the interview questions are you most interested to hear the answer to? Also, how much research do you do pre interview on each guest? Love to hear your thoughts! Keep rocking my friend!

@harrystebbings Thanks Harry! You rock :-) I LOVE the '•What is a personal habit that contributes to your success?' It gives me insights into what my guests think aids their success!

@harrystebbings I do ZERO prep for each guest. When I read the 50ish word bio, I am learning about them. It puts me in the spot of the listener...Fire Nation. Curios!

What's the upsides/downsides with using the same "template" for every episode?
M
John Lee Dumas
@johnleedumas · Founder, EOFire
@mkaroumi Upside: Your listener knows what to expect when they press play. YOUR time is valuable, I don't talk about cats. Upside for Host: Less bandwidth for thinking of the initial questions means more bandwidth to be invested in the follow up q's to the guests answer.

@mkaroumi Downside: It's repetitive and will turn some listeners off. But so what, if you are tying to resonate with everyone you resonate with no one, so take a stand. 1.2 million listens a month means I have my audience, and other Podcasters have built GREAT audiences with no or little format. It's what YOU as the host are excited by so you can still be podcasting 3 years from now

@johnleedumas @mkaroumi awesome, thanks for this great answer :)

Alex Blumberg of Gimlet Media is really excited about better advertising on podcasts enabled by software. In app purchases, dynamic ads, etc. Do you have any thoughts on what you would like to see or where you think the future of podcast advertising is headed?
M
John Lee Dumas
@johnleedumas · Founder, EOFire
@alexcartaz I would love to see dynamic insertion where with the click of a button sponsors could buy past inventory for a set time. Podcasts are evergreen and as it sits now they are getting a TON of ROI as they are on shows for all time. sponsors should buy 6 week blocks, and those spots should be sellable again.

@johnleedumas How important is consistency to building your online brand? Any advice to be more consistent?
M
John Lee Dumas
@johnleedumas · Founder, EOFire
@tjvillamil Hi TJ :-) Consistency is EVERYTHING. If you are going to build an audience that knows/likes and trusts you, you have to CONSISTENTLY deliver for them...Come up with a plan, and execute. Don't bite off more than you can chew...build your production slowly

@johnleedumas thanks for being here and for producing EOFire! I love listening to it! You have been very successful the last years, but I'm curious: Where do you see yourself and the show in the future? How long do you want to keep on podcasting and what's the next challenge you are going to set for yourself? Best wishes for your future, Dominik

@dbleilevens Great q DB and thanks for the kind words! The online world is shifting too fast to put too much thought in the future. I love where EOFire is now, and I'm curious to see where it goes, but not stressed out about it. I'd rather keep focused on today, and let tmrw happen.

@dbleilevens The next challenge I am SUPER excited about is my first physical product I have ever created, The Freedom Journal. It's a gorgeous leather bound journal that will guide you in SETTING and ACCOMPLISHING you goal in 100-days. We are having a KILLER crowdfunding campaign launching January 4th and have partnered with Pencils of Promise so proceeds will be building schools in 3rd world countries. SUPER pumped about this. Learn more and get on the interest list here: http://TheFreedomJournal.com

Thanks for joining us today John! I don't know the numbers as well as should, but you seem to be better at generating revenue with your podcast than most others. Is this true? If so, could you elaborate on why you think that is?
M
John Lee Dumas
@johnleedumas · Founder, EOFire
@alexcartaz Hi AC! The numbers are all here: http://www.EOFire.com/income. and yes we are. I think EOFire is so financially successful because I am relentless in asking Fire Nation 'What are you struggling with' then creating the solution to their pain point in the form of products and services, most notably Podcasters' Paradise: 3.5 Mil in rev since Oc 2013, and Webinar On Fire: 300k in rev since mid 2014. Plus our massive listenership generates over 100k a month in sponsorship revenue: http://www.EOFire.com/sponsorships

Are you currently working on any side ventures? Do you have any exciting new ventures planned during the next few years?
M

@johnleedumas · Founder, EOFire
@alexcartaz http://TheFreedomJournal.com is the most exciting venture I currently am rocking. I also partnered with mark Asquith to create www.PodcastWebsites.com that has over 375 users and 25k a month in rev right off the bat, so thats exciting!

@johnleedumas thanks for joining us today! Amazing work producing EOFire! You have talked to so many people, what is your favorite undiscovered (or less discovered) moment of all of the footage? :-)
M
John Lee Dumas
@johnleedumas · Founder, EOFire
@corleyh Thanks Corley, appreciate! So in episode 266 I interviewed my mentor. After the show was over, I put in 20 seconds of silence then played the FIRST ever test interview I did with her back in august of 2012. MAN was I bad...but it was funny and Fire Nation loved it!

John, what is something no one has asked you that you would be hesitant to answer? (besides 'when are you and Kate getting married?' Ha

@brandonuttley BU, always the tough Q's :-) I would say how long it took me to get 'good' as a podcast host. Answer: 450 episodes...
