Before creating the hit WNYC / NPR show "Snap Judgment" (Storytelling, with a BEAT) I worked as an educator, diplomat, community activist, actor, political strategist, fist-shaker, mountain-hollerer, and foot stomper. I composed music for the Kunst Stoff dance performances in San Francisco, rocked live spoken word poetry in Detroit, joined a band in Indonesia, wrote several screenplays, painted a daring series of self portraits, released a blues album. My stories are best served with cocktails. ;) Happy to be here, ask away!

Wow Glynn! What an intro 🙌 Makes me wonder: Where is one place you want to visit that you haven't been before?

@jacqvon I really have a hankering to go to North Africa. Maybe Morocco. The writer Tahir Shah (who has been featured on Snap) has a restored a Caliphate home near a shantytown on the outskirts of Casablanca. I have to find a way to get there!

What are your thoughts on the future of podcasts? What do you think is currently most broken? What are you excited to see improve?

@alexcartaz We are are the very beginning of the Golden Age of audio. The vitaltiy of the podcast space is inviting so many new and talented storytellers to the medium, it's super exciting to watch. But the archetecture of podcasting is broken. Their is still no universal app that let's people share and comment socially, and provides the two-way between the podcaster and the audience.

@alexcartaz Organizing and optimizing this space from both a listener perspective and a creator perspective is key. Someone's gonna crack that nut, and it's gonna be awesome.

@glynnwashington thanks for joining us today! 🙌what has been the most surprising moment working on Snap Judgement?
M
Glynn Washington
@glynnwashington · Host / Executive Producer, Snap Judgment
@ems_hodge The good news is that I'm surprised often. Mostly by the incredible kindness and humanity of the people that share their stories with us. Don't be fooled -- there are good people left in the world.

What's the most challenging thing about being a podcast host?
M
Glynn Washington
@glynnwashington · Host / Executive Producer, Snap Judgment
@melissajoykong The business of podcast / radio / audio is by far the most challenging thing. It took a tremendous amount of energy, luck, and planning, love, tears, and elbow grease to start Snap. It has always been hard keeping the lights on at a small arts organization. We have had a real roller coaster from a sustainability perspective.

Thanks for joining us. What are your favourite questions to ask in an interview and what would you advise someone starting out in the interview industry?

@glynnwashington · Host / Executive Producer, Snap Judgment
@harrystebbings Listen to everything and everybody. And not just interview. Listen to storytellers, comics, and everybody else. And you may not believe it, but one of the very best interviewers in the world is Howard Stern. He gets stuff out of people that no one does. Take notes on Howard . . .
