If you were 25 today, what would you work on?

Same thing I'm doing now: building businesses and writing books. I didn't start until I was 30 - I wish I'd started earlier. No time like the present to change your world and to change the world.

Hi Dave, thanks for the AMA. I was wondering when you guys started back in 2006-7 what marketing tactics did you guys use?

Old fashioned cold-calling to hit up big clients. And blogging, lots of it. I remember when we launched our 1st blog Buzz Marketing Daily in 2006, my wife said, "You can't call it that, then we'll have to post daily." We did anyway, and it worked out REALLY well.

Hi Dave, what are some key things people can expect to takeaway from your latest book, #ArtofPeople?
M

53 people skills in 11 categories, all told through stories. A few examples: Why to wear orange shoes, why to always take the water, how to get to know someone well in 3 minutes, the crazy power of validation. It's by far by most important book, and I am SO excited to get some feedback on it from my readers.

You and Gary Vaynerchuk have basically had the same business trajectory. What do you two do differently or the same?

@jeffumbro Gary's a great guy. I think we both are into the hustle, and obviously we both like to build businesses and speak and write, and yes we both like social media a lot, and put our family first. Wow that is a lot. He curses a lot more than I do. And he's Jets and I'm Mets. But he's a terrific and super smart guy, so I'm always thrilled to be compared to him.

What do you want your tombstone to say? 🔮💀

AMAZING QUESTION. I met a man named Frank Lautenberg on a plane several years ago who shaped this answer forever. Link here, but basically, he was an amazing entrepreneur (ADP!) and Senator (Wrote the no-smoking on airlines bill, age of consent to drink). But he told me none of that would be on his tombstone. His kids names would be. So, G-d willing, my tombstone will say "Beloved Father to Charlotte, Kate and Seth. Grandfather to 11. Husband to Carrie. Built a more likeable world." https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/2...

What's the craziest thing you've done, in business or not, that you're cool with sharing?
M
Dave Kerpen

I'm cool with sharing everything. Craziest thing I've ever done in business was funding payroll early on myself when we would have missed it otherwise. Craziest thing I've ever done out of business was hitchhike in East St. Louis with a drunk driver taking us back to our hotel across a bridge at 6 am after partying all night and not having any money. Proud of the first thing, ashamed of the 2nd.

What's one of the easiest people skills that's often overlooked, but easily achieved that you can share with us today?

LISTENING. Listening is so important and so valuable and so easy but so often overlooked. If people get one thing from the #ArtofPeople, I want it to be the power of true, authentic listening, and how to become a better listener.

Hi Dave!
One of my goals in life is to write a book, but I'm not a journalist or writer. Based on that, what are your tips to write a book when you are not in the "writing" business?
Thanks 🙌

Don't try to write a book. Just write, everyday, for as much time as you can. 20 minutes a day. A blog post a day. 50 tweets a day. It doesn't matter, just flex that writing muscle. Before long, you will be able to write a book.

@davekerpen Thanks Dave! I've been doing that, it really helps me to write more and more. I think to write a book is something that happens natural, I'm right?

@gabrielreynard Takes a ton of discipline. But keep at it!
