Anwar Jibawi

Comedian, YouTube Star, and Internet Celebrity

Hi, I’m Anwar Jibawi and I’m a comedian, actor, writer, and director. I want to connect with as many people as possible through my comedy. With support from my Shots Studios family--amazing creators and people--I get to express myself and bring joy to people all over through my work.

Hi Anwar, thanks for joining us today. What tips can you share with the Product Hunt community about creating great, sharable content?
@ems_hodge I think it's different for everyone. From my personal experience, I believe that great, sharable content comes from my own experiences. I write everything down and go from there. Making content relatable is also very important.

Hey Anwar! Huge fan of your comedy sketches and all your collabs with the rest of the Shots Studios fam! 1) Can you talk about how you got your first bit of popularity? The initial audience 10k that helped put you on the map. 2) What advice would you share about social media and storytelling that most people wouldn't know? What are the "secrets" that you've learned. 3) Can you talk about the economics of being a YouTube star (without getting into the specifics)? Where does the bulk of the dollars come in? How much do YouTubers of your size typically make off sponsorships vs. ads vs. other methods

Hi there Anwar. I would like to ask some questions. #1 What are the most important things to understand while doing celebrity marketing? #2 How do people should choose their direction (comedian, viner, photographer, etc) and the last #3 What did your journey of becoming celebrity taught you? Thanks in advance!

Hey Anwar, thanks for joining us! What's it like being managed by Shots Studios? Been following the progression of Shots the app into the studio model, love the content... Wondering what the process is like from your end, and will you be expanding into other kind of things (like the recent Dolce & Gabbana runway show).
@nivo0o0 I love it. We're like a family. We get to bounce ideas off of each other constantly and help each other grow as creators and as individuals. It's awesome to share this journey with them. Dolce and Gabbana was amazing. I've never done anything like it and can't wait to work with them again. I definitely am working on some other projects with my agency WME and Shots Studios.

Hi anwar, first of all thank you for making us laugh every week. This is so important these days. You describe yourself with 4 words comedian, actor, writer, and director. Which of these is your favorite and which takes most of your time ?
@lumo_prince Hi Lumo. Thanks for the question. It changes from day to day. I love being all of those things. Right now I'm starting to get more into directing. I helped direct this video with Mike Tyson.

Instagram/YouTube comedy is a very unique genre. Is this a stepping stone to feature films?
@andrewett Instagram and YouTube are really fun platforms and I'm grateful that they've opened up so many doors for me. Personally, it's important to keep pushing myself to grow and expand in different ways. That could mean doing feature films or it could mean something else. You never know what opportunities will present themselves, but I want to keep an open mind and just work hard at whatever I do.

What is the best advice you have ever received? How did this impact you?
@ems_hodge It sounds cliche, but the best advice was just to believe in myself. Comedy and entertainment aren't easy and you can get down on yourself so it's important to trust that you're capable of doing anything. Sometimes the creative process is difficult and you get stuck on a concept or you want to edit a really good scene for hours because you want to make it perfect. Thankfully, I get a lot of love and support from my friends, family, Shots and the fans that keep me going.

How do you feel about making the transition from Vine to YouTube?
@noelemmanuel_ Vine helped me hone my skills very early on. Being on Vine was a great experience because I got to work with amazing people that I still collaborate with today and I learned more about my own create process. I'm thankful for what Vine did for me personally, but I needed to move on in order to really grow like I knew I could. YouTube has been great. I love creating longer forms of content.

All of you at Shots Studios make so many cameos in each other's videos – curious if you allocate views from other people's channel's to each person (or how that may work)? For example, I was just looking at YouTube's Trending and at #3... The Walking Dead video that you just published on Rudy's Channel is gonna do super well. And Super Mario Run that you're in, from Lele's channel, has 30M+ views 👀

Hey, I love your videos. I noticed that you were a lot of time in others people video. How did you guys all meet? (Through Shots or something else?)
@tsunaze I met and got to work with a lot of different people that were in the Vine community. Since joining Shots, I've also been able to get to know and collaborate with so many awesome people. Our Shots team is really a tight-knit family so we bounce ideas off each other and try to support each other as much as we can.
do you have a hobby?
@13rwgalogan Writing. I've been working on a comedy movie script.
