What inspired you to write a book about vlogging?
M
Amy Schmittauer
@schmittastic
@vincenzolandino My community. They asked for it and I showed up for them. They are the driver of everything I do.

A book about video? Who are you trying to reach and what do you feel is the biggest barrier for people adopting video blogging?
M
Amy Schmittauer
@schmittastic
@isocialfanz For the people who enjoy reading as much as I do, I've written this book for them. Who am I to decide the medium? The biggest barrier is allowing yourself to accept that people are going to think things about you because you're making your mark. No matter if it's good or bad, they will judge you for daring to make video. Getting past that is tough.

If you could give yourself 1-2 pieces of advice when you first started out, what would they be?
M
Amy Schmittauer
@schmittastic
@awhitcom 1) SHOW more than you tell. 2) Have more conversations in other people's video comments than your own.

Do you have preferred video lengths for different pieces of content? Do you find a certain length to resonate most with your subscribers?
M
Amy Schmittauer
@schmittastic
@getsynap Definitely different lengths for different formats. A lifecasting vlog will go on a little longer when it makes sense (closer to 10 minutes) while a strategy or tip will be a 2-4 minute video ideally. No matter what the length, make good on the promise you give your subscribers and only use the time that will be valuable for them Not too long. Not too short.

Hi Amy, I have started a Blog about trending tech and other topics, I need to know how do you see the idea of utilizing Google Trends as a source of blog topics?
M
Amy Schmittauer
@schmittastic
@techcommodities ABSO-FREAKIN-LUTELY! You could always pay attention to what trending so you can get the most relevant content out for your audience. This is a great resource. Especially for YouTube.

Thanks Amy! What have been the biggest personal/mental benefits you have experienced from vlogging? How would one best approach vlogging to optimize those benefits?
M
Amy Schmittauer
@schmittastic
@andrewdbass I have becomes a far better communicator than ever in my life. By being able to focus on the camera lens like it's a person I'm talking to over coffee and being the best version of me in that — otherwise awkward — form of communicating, I've learned to tell a story. That's made me better as a person and better yet, a public speaker.

Hi Amy thanks for being here today. What is your daily inspiration?
M
Amy Schmittauer
@schmittastic
@ems_hodge My mom and my beagle. My mom made me believe I could do anything if I want to. My beagle made me want to learn how to make money from home so we could cuddle whenever we want. It's inspired me everyday as an entrepreneur to keep going.

What's your daily routine?
M
Amy Schmittauer
@schmittastic
@bentossell Follow my calendar. Everything I have to do and where I need to be is there. I wake up first for skin care, cardio and coffee. Emails can wait until I'm done with that.

What has most surprised you about writing your book?
M
Amy Schmittauer
@schmittastic
@bentossell That I actually enjoyed writing it. I thought it was going to be much more difficult for me as someone who creates video but I guess when you learn how to communicate you can find a way to make it happen in other mediums as well.
