Appcues

Senior UI Designer
Full Time · Boston · 80K - 120K USD

Job description

Do you dream of being a part of a company that really values design? One where the whole team participates in user testing monthly, cares about the user experience from the beginning, looks forward to nailing the details, and thinks in terms of solving problems instead of shipping features? Teams like this are hard to find, but Appcues is one of them. We believe design is core to our success. As our UI designer, you'll work as a team with other designers to advance the visual style, form, and function of our multifaceted user interfaces. Why multifaceted? The Appcues platform is used by hundreds of teams, and the embedded UIs our customers build are viewed by millions of users per month. Our success depends upon the quality of design we're able to help our customers achieve, and that's why we need you: Appcues is effectively a user experience company. You'll also work directly on the design of our own customer platform for building Appcues experiences—a whole other kind of fun. Based on these complex challenges, we're looking for someone who has diverse experience designing UIs for web products and creating component systems, who’s also at ease participating in user testing and broader product discussions. You'll collaborate directly with our team of engineers—a talented-yet-humble group hailing from companies like HubSpot, PayPal, BOSE and MIT Media Lab—to help them make a consistent and high-quality UI. You will… - Mainly work with tools like Sketch, InVision, Illustrator, and HTML & CSS (your call) - Lead the charge for our unified pattern library: you're the go-to for our core UI style and function - Form the foundation of a growing design and product team that collaborates on problems together - Participate directly in user testing to get direct feedback on what you make You might want to join our team if you… - Have 3 or more years of experience designing beautiful UIs for great products - Have a strong visual design style and are super into good typography, layout systems, patterns, and interaction details - Love talking to users to help you understand problems and make good UI decisions - Have a fire inside to make things better - Feel at least a little embarrassed by your past work (you’re always improving) Appcues is an equal opportunity employer and we value diversity. We do not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, color, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, age, marital status, veteran status, or disability status.

We've built a real-time customer engagement and user activation platform that helps hundreds of companies work smarter by allowing growth teams to interact with their users, run communications experiments, and more without requiring in-house engineering time. We're looking for talented front-end engineers to design and create the products and features that will bring our customers even more power to improve their user experience. At Appcues, you'll get the chance to build bulletproof products for the modern web, using modern tools: ES6, React, Redux, AWS Lambda, Elixir, Postgres, Redis, and more. Here's a little bit about us as a company: - We're a small team (under twenty) of friendly people who like to work together. We strive to be transparent and inclusive at all levels of the business. Here are some things we're looking for in our next frontend engineer: *Lots of experience in the browser* The Appcues service is designed around the web. We build web apps, web services, embed scripts, browser extensions, and more. Taming the complexity of the web for our customers is Appcues' bread and butter. Working at Appcues means working with web browsers, so we're seeking those with a knack for understanding how all the parts of the web fit together. *Great at building UI* Appcues is not only building UI for our customers, we're building UI for their users too. And we also have a habit of building working prototypes when we're hashing out a feature. Hundreds of millions of events are passed among internal and external systems at Appcues every day. We're eager to find engineers who like to think about systems, who understand the flow of data and its implications, and who aren't shy about breaking monoliths into microservices when the need arises. *Always learning* It's our job to ensure a great user experience no matter how our customers' sites are built. Staying current on the latest web and computing tech gives us the insights we need to stay one step ahead. Our ideal engineer never stops improving themselves and their craft. Job description

Appcues is looking for a few great engineers to help us explode into 2017. We've built a real-time customer engagement and user activation platform that helps hundreds of companies work smarter by allowing growth teams to interact with their users, run communications experiments, and more without requiring in-house engineering time. We're looking for talented full stack engineers to create the platform, products, and features that will bring our customers even more power to help their users succeed. We use tools like ES6, React, Redux, Elixir, and AWS Lambda in order to provide the right basis for a very fast, high-availability, distributed web platform for in-app communication. A bit about Appcues the company: - We're a small team (under twenty) of friendly people who like to work together. - We strive to be transparent and inclusive at all levels of the business. This means there are many opportunities to make an outsized impact. - We're located in Fenway, Boston's fastest-growing neighborhood and an emerging anchor point for tech startups (and good food). - We offer medical and dental insurance benefits, equity and quarterly equity bonuses, conference and education reimbursement, an equipment stipend, and an unlimited vacation policy. Here are some important qualities for our next full-stack hire: *Broad experience* We need developers who are ready to make a difference from day one, who are comfortable working at any level within our tech stack, who have a proven track record of delivering top quality product and infrastructure, and who never stop improving. Strongly experienced candidates are strongly encouraged to apply. *Loves working with data* In order to handle hundreds of millions of event ingestions per day, Appcues' data is stored variously across Postgres, Firebase, DynamoDB, Redis, S3, and other databases and services. We need people who know the pros and cons of different data technologies, and who can apply that knowledge in service of the customer. *Great at distributed systems* Appcues is built from over a dozen connected services. Our next team member will know the ins and outs of working with data and distributed systems: streams, queues, batches, message passing, data security, deployment, load balancing, orchestration, etc. *Strong skills in the browser* Taming the complexity of the web for non-developers is Appcues' bread and butter. In addition to their skills in modern webapp development, our ideal engineer can break down and debug even the nastiest in-browser issues. *Up-to-date on new tech and new techniques* We like to stay ahead of the technology curve, and that's why we've made bets on practices like serverless computing, functional programming, immutable data, and containerized deployment orchestration.
