Hi, All We are building a SaaS product that will use the freemium model. My question is should we add a price plan on the first day we launch the product or we launch for free first and tell the users we will have a price plan in the coming days?

If I understand correctly you ask if you should launch free version as soon as possible, and then (when ready) launch the paid version as well? If this is the case, than I would suggest to launch as soon as possible the lighter (free) version. This way you can learn a lot: ➜ What's the right pricing (Sales) ➜ What are the pain points they are trying to solve (Marketing) ➜ How your users interact with the app (UX) ➜ Is your app buggy or already production ready (Product) And then, based on data received from the Free version you will have everything you need for a proper launch of you Premium price plan.

@ralic Thanks a lot! Our product was in invite only test currently. We plan to public launch in June. There are 2 choices for us to launch the product: 1, Launch free version first and let the users know that our price plan will be ready soon. Pros is we can save some time. Cons is we have to wait longer time to know if users would like to pay for the product. 2, Launch the product with price plan, free plan and paid plan(with no price but with a contact us button). Pros is we can see if some uses would contact us to pay as the earlier stage, Cons is we need take some time to design limitation of our free plan and paild plan. My co-founder choose the 1st choice and I choose the 2nd choice.

@zhitao_yan depending on your app, your pricing model and your spending you can maybe mix these two together. If there are no huge expenses for you for PRO users, I would suggest: ➜ Launch as soon as possible with a 1-month PRO trial for all ➜ Create a time-limited lifetime deal or a good discount to capture early payers If 1 month is not enough to develop limitations then give everyone one additional month for free because they've supported you early 😄 Maybe this is not the right approach for your particular case, but I would always suggest to launch as soon as possible and then try and figure out the way to solve the rest. And that's where: ➜ Lifetime deals ➜ Free trials ➜ Discounts ➜ Simply ignoring free users going against limitations may come handy 😄 That's for you two to decide. You know the best your app and your audience, sit down, think outside the box and figure this out 😄

I say launch that price plan asap. Best way to validate an idea is see if people will pay you for it!
